'Avatar' technology for fourth 'Resident Evil' instalment

New Delhi, April 7 (IANS) The fourth instalment of the hit 'Resident Evil' franchise has been shot using the fusion digital 3-D camera, invented and used by acclaimed filmmaker James Cameron for his sci-fi epic drama 'Avatar'.

Titled 'Resident Evil: Afterlife', the sci-fi horror thriller is the first movie after 'Avatar' to use the Fusion Camera System, according to a statement by distributors Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Touted as the world's most advanced 3-D technology, it was developed by Cameron and Vincent Pace, director of photography for 'Avatar', over a period of 10 years.

'I can't tell you how beautiful this camera system makes movies look in 3-D and how much depth you get,' the movie's writer-director-producer Paul W.S. Anderson said in the statement.

Based on the survival horror video game series, 'Resident Evil: Afterlife' is the first film in the series to be released in 3-D.

The movie stars Milla Jovovich who reprises her role from the previous three successful films as Alice. Also starring in pivotal roles are Ali Larter and Wentworth Miller.

'Resident Evil: Afterlife' picks up where the third film 'Resident Evil: Extinction' left off. It shows that the world is ravaged by an infectious virus and victims are turned into the undead (zombies) while Alice continues her journey to find survivors and lead them to safety.

In the course of her journey and battle for survival, she gets some unexpected help from an old friend, Redfield (played by Ali), who takes Alice and her comrades to Los Angeles. When they arrive, the city is overrun by thousands of undead and a deadly trap awaits.

Releasing worldwide Sep 10, the movie will be released in India in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
