Couple of the Month: Neetu Singh and Rishi Kapoor

The month of August represents the pinnacle of summer and also the peak of thunderstorms. Where the pinnacle of summer means growth and success, thunderstorms don't pass without grabbing attention! Such is the celebrity and personal lives of one of Bollywood's power couples even today, Rishi and Neetu Kapoor!

The beautiful couple took over the big screen and the headlines with their undisputed chemistry and love story during their time! The charming Neetu Singh entered the industry at the point where the chocolate boy, Rishi Kapoor had already captured the title of being an established actor. When Neetu was 14, the two talented personas began dating, soon becoming the talk of the town!

The two came together for the first time for their movie, Zehrilla Insaan. Unlike most couples, these two did not hit it off with a smile on their faces; at least, Neetu didn't, with kajal smeared on her face by the one and only Rishi himself! Eventually, it was the naughty pranks Rishi played on her that won her over! After their first movie, came many more such as Zinda Dil, Khel Khel Mein, Dhan Daulat, and Anjane Mein!

It was not long before Rishi Kapoor proposed to his lady love, which although sent the gal's mother, Rajee over the moon, the latter herself was very apprehensive about the proposal. Being the breadwinner of the family, Neetu felt uncomfortable leaving her mother to fend for herself, and this is when the charming actor swooped in and became her real life hero! After the marriage on January 22, 1980, he brought his mother-in-law along and offered her a place in their home and in his heart.

As with any celebrity love story, controversy is a must! It was believed that the Kapoor family was very patriarchal and a Kapoor bahu was to handle the household and nothing more. True to the rumors, Neetu left the film industry in 1983, shortly after the marriage. Many years later, word was out that Rishi Kapoor had become an alcoholic - leading to marital issues between the evergreen jodi of Bollywood.

Despite the many hurdles and controversies thrown about, the pair has lead a happy, and successful marital life with two beautiful children! Their daughter is happily married and an established fashion designer whereas their son, actor Ranbir Kapoor, is the heartthrob of many! 

Almost 30 years later, the two were seen together on the silver screen once again for Love Aaj Kal, and then Do Dooni Char, followed by Besharam, a film by their one and only son! Very recently, the couple was seen playing an endearing married pair in Shah Rukh Khan's, Jab Tak Hai Jaan.

Ek Rishi, aur ek Neetu. Yeh toh hona hi tha! The jodi of Neetu and Rishi Kapoor has been a favorite of many for decades and we can only hope that it remains to be that way! We can definitely say that this is a Tinsel Town couple that managed to create the same magic in their real lives that they created on the big screen!
