Sequels... squeezing female actresses out!

After watching a great movie, we always wish there to be a sequel made. We wished for a sequel after Hera Pheri we got Phir Hera Pheri, we wished for a sequel of the action packed Dhoom we got a double action packed Dhoom 2. We had even wished for the sequel of the thriller Raaz  and voila' we got Raaz 2. Oh, and how can we forget wishing for another Koi Mil Gaya? We got Krrish! And Munnabhai well, we should go slowly now, as we will be talking a lot about sequels here. Some blockbusters, and some ... simply "busters", who just busted all the hooplah that was created due to the first being a hit.


But, have we ever noticed that all the actors we loved in the first movie are not whollyBipasha Basu, Dhoom, Dhoom 2, Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Hera Pheri, Phir Hera Pheri" align="right" hspace="5" vspace="5" /> repeated. Usually the female lead is changed. While Priety Zinta dazzled in Koi Mil Gaya, her character was killed and Hrithik plays his own son and romanced Priyanka Chopra">Priyanka Chopra. Gracy Singh got the similar axe for the Munnabhai M.B.B.S. sequel, after Murli Prasad (Sanjay Dutt's character) decided to pursue Gandhigiri instead of "doctori" in Lage Raho Munnabhai. He had Vidya Balan to fall in love with! Tabu got the limelight in Hera Pheri, but when the sequel was made Rimi Sen got all the light. Talking about Rimi Sen, it seems she must be the only actress, till now, who was starred even in the sequel of Dhoom... but oh! what's that? ... she got pregnant with Abhishek's character - "ACP Jai Dixit" and all she got was only a few scenes watching TV, chatting on the dinner table and saying goodbye to her onscreen husband while he went off and had fun in the exotic beaches of Rio, Brazil. For the sizzlers of the film, Esha Deol was replaced by 2 hotties, Aishwarya Rai and Bipasha Basu inn Dhoom"2"!!! And didn't they sizzle?!!
 

Speaking of Bipasha Basu, seems like she has gained and she has lost in this sequel-female-lead-changing-game. While she gained Dhoom 2, she lost Raaz 2. If you remember, Bipasha was highly praised for her character in Raaz. Every Raaz-lover thought (and wished) her to return in Raaz 2. But the Bhatts butted with destiny and casted their favorite, Kangana Ranaut in the lead role. Surprisingly, Bipasha is her bubbly self and does not mind it. Even though she was not cast in the sequel of Race, she is "fine".
 

Race did well. Abbas Mastan got accolades for their work. But "if the original directors are not doing the sequel, who am I? I haven't been approached for Race 2. That's fine." says Bengal's Bombshell. She thinks this to be a tradition in the "man's world" for casting another actress instead for the same for the sequel movie. But then again, she doesn't feel like a second citizen for that.

 
Bipasha has her hands into upcoming laugh riots like "Mr. Fraud" and Rohit Shetty's "All the Best", both with Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgan. She enjoys her work and wants to see herself doing many things along with acting... like stage shows, business and social work.
