Sonam Kapoor Turns Into Jane Austen's Emma

Since the beginning of movie-age filmmakers have more than often looked towards the good old library for inspiration. Be it a certain character or a plot or even a situation, such literary works have been used to adorn the big screens many times.

In India, there was a time when books by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, Premchand, Rabindranath Tagore etc. were made into classiSonam Kapoor Turns Into Jane Austens Emma" align="right" hspace="5" vspace="5" />c epic cinema. The book-inclination although changed and cinema saw a break from books and into some original scripts and lots of remakes. The book-inspiration style, though, is coming back in fashion. Jhumpa Lahiri's The Namesake, Vikas Swarup's "Slumdog Millionaire", Chetan Bhagat's "One Night In The Call Centre" have been made into films. And there are many more to come… like Chetan Bhagat's "3 Mistakes of My Life" is being turned into "3 Idiots" by  Aamir Khan's Production House.

Apart from this, Bollywood is now turning to British literary classics and that too in a big way. In the recent times, Vishal Bhardwaj adapted Shakespeare's "Othello" and "Macbeth" into a couple of great Indianised versions, called "Omkara" and "Maqbool".

Jane Austen is another one of the favorite authors. First, Gurinder Chadha adapted the very famous "Pride and Prejudice" into Aishwarya starring musical "Bride and Prejudice", 5 years back, and now Anil Kapoor is set to turn his daughter's favorite classic comic novel "Emma" into "Ayesha".

"Ayesha" will star Sonam Kapoor as the main protagonist and she will be accompanied by the critic's favorite, Abhay Deol, the MTV funny guy, Cyrus Sahukar and one-film-old Arunomay Singh. The film will be directed by Rajshree Ojha, who recently directed a cross-cultural film "Chaurahen" (Crossroads). The movie is being produced by Anil Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor.

According to sources, Sonam has been "living her character wherever she is-home, partying with friends or socializing". The film is under production stage now.

The film comes at a time when Sonam's filmograph is not going great. Her first two films Saawariya and Delhi-6 bombing in the box office, she needed a guardian angel. Sonam surely is taking this seriously. Nowadays, all she can think of is this.

No wonder Papa Kapoor has already started with the production. Hoping this might turn into the "Hrithik Roshan" for her.
