Delhi University student arrested for theft

Noida, July 26 (IANS) A Delhi University student was arrested for allegedly stealing a debit card which he used to buy presents for his girlfriend, police said Monday.

Noida Phase-II police arrested Raman Sunkara, 24, a third year B.Com. student of Delhi University, Sunday night from Pocket 7 in Sector-82.

Raman's father Dev Das Sunkara works at a senior position with the Education Department of the Orissa government, the police said.

'Raman was staying in Pocket 7 of Sector-82 with his two brothers and mother. One of his brothers is pursuing MBA while the other is studying in school,' Deepak Sharma, station house officer - Phase-II police station, said.

On May 2, a person named Ashish Kumar, staying in Kendriya Vihar, had gone to a nearby ATM to withdraw money. After taking out cash, he forgot to take back his ATM card. Raman who had also gone to the ATM stole his HDFC debit card.

'He then went to a mobile store in Sector-18, from where he purchased a sophisticated Nokia handset. His mobile number was put on surveillance. On Sunday night, his location was traced to near his house in Pocket 7 of Sector-82. He was arrested from there in a raid,' Sharma told.

'Raman told us that he wanted to gift the Nokia mobile to his girlfriend. We have registered a case against him. He has been sent to jail,' he said.
