Movie Review: Mickey Virus

Apparently everyone from the first look had a feeling by default that Mickey Virus is somewhere going to be a rip off of Vicky Donor. Well, why not when you have an anchor turning into a leading man one more time and he becomes Mickey from Vicky, a Punjabi boy from the streets of Delhi in this one. But with god's grace Manish Paul's Mickey Virus is not Vicky Donor from anywhere. This one's different.

We all have loved Manish as his candid and cheeky self on stage hosting and somewhere his character is an extension of it. He does comedy with ease and we all know who can be better to tickle your funny bone than this one.

Manish is Mickey who happens to be a hacker and is the best in the business. His debut as a leading man on the big screen is as confident as confident can get. He helps Poppi at her grocery store in the day and does his computer tricks in the night with his gang of hackers who are very conveniently called Floppy ( Raghav Kakkar), Chutney ( Pooja Gupta), Panchoyes, you read it right ( Vikesh Kumar). This is the 'it gang' from Nehru Place.

Elli Avram under layers and layers of make- up is just another damsel in distress in the film as Kamayani.

ACP Siddhant Chauhan played by Manish Chaudhary is in search of a computer genius to solve a major cyber- crime and enters our funny man, Mickey. In the middle of hacking and staring at the computer screen, this Virus falls head over heels in love with Kamayani who is fondly called Kung Fu Chameli by his lover boy. Yes.. these are the names in the films.

Director, Saurabh Verma has done a great amount of research on how cyber -crimes happen and how hackers live their lives. In the middle of all this hoopla that happens for a 100 crore cyber theft a lot of aspects of this trade are put light on. But at many places the visuals used for hacking look amateurish and not believable.

If you're trying to think that Mickey Virus is trying to be preachy and giving someone some message, you're absolutely mistaken. It's fun and most of it is Manish. All you should do is look at him and smile.

Varun Badola plays a cop as well and his performance is to watch out for. He is bang on. All and all Mickey Virus is not a great film but it is not a bad attempt as well.
