Karthik's Dil Hi Dil Mein is a remake of Nora Ephron's You Got Mail (1998). Raja (Kunal) runs away from his village, abandoning his family to come to Mumbai and seek admission into a management institution. He gets admission due to the kindness of the college chairman Ram Chander (Nazir), who had also struggled to make a fortune and he could relate himself to Raja. Raja spends his time at a cyber caf, where he encounters Roja (Sonali Bendre) in a chat room. She initially tells him that she is a 45 year old from America. When Raja finds out that she is only 19, he gets hooked on to her. Then photos are exchanged, and the romance begins.
