Music Review: Singham Returns

Singham Returns, the Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor starer, is all set to open this Independence Day, 15^th August. The sequel to 2011's super hit Singham is helmed by Rohit Shetty and there are high expectations all around. The much awaited movie is still unknown to us, but the music seems to have set the bar for a pretty good show.

With the likes of Arijit Singh, Jeet Ganguly, Meet Bros Anjjan and quite a few others contributing, the album is short, but filled with quality music.

The album opens with Arijit Singh on "Sun Le Zara", a romantic track that shines amidst the fast-paced cop drama. Riding more on vocals and lyrics, the song starts off slow, but picks up with guitar portions and finds its rhythm in a semi-rock beat. Audiences may be reminded of another Jeet Ganguly composed number sung by Singh from CityLights (2014) therefore hinting that they will definitely rock out.

The "Singham Returns Theme" song comes next and it is sung by Mika Singh alongside Meet Bros Anjjan. It is a completely different take on the Ajay-Atul theme from the first movie. Meet Bros Anjjan have taken the extremely popular track and remade it with new beats, turning it into a fast paced track. However, some may enjoy the original a tad bit more. The only remix on the album is a remix of this theme, with added Punjabi beats to the song. Is it enough to save the track? Well, only the listeners can decide.

Another romantic track on the album is "Kuch Toh Hua Hai". Sung by Ankit Tiwari and Tulsi Kumar, it is straightforward, simple and, dare we say, ordinary. It is nothing new or fresh, and while it is enjoyable, it lacks the oomph factor. The track is sway worthy nonetheless since Tiwari also proved his worth with the music composition.

Yo Yo Honey Singh lends his vocals to "Aata Majhi Satakli" alongside Mamta Sharma. A good beat, some fantastic rapping and hip lyrics are complemented by the usage of Bajirao Singham's signature dialogue, made popular in the first film, 'Aata Majhi Satakli'. Sharma's vocals are used perfectly and the song is entertaining. This number will definitely be heard in parties and clubs soon.

All in all, the album is pretty decent. There were no supremely high standards for the music, and what we have gotten has impressed right on the borderline. Short but sweet; the album is surely bound to work well as the fast-paced cop drama soon hits theatres around us. BollyCurry wishes the entire team immense success.
