Bollywood has always influenced the
world of television in one way or other. Whether it be the lavish sets,
song sequences or romantic moments, the influence of Bollywood has been
evident in many television shows, especially during the 21st Century
where the Czarina of Television, Ekta Kapoor, forayed into the industry
with her path breaking shows.
The early 2000s saw Bollywood songs make its way into the world of television serials such as Kkusum using the song "Tere Naam" as a theme song for the lead couple and Kasauti Zindagi Kay,
which made the evergreen song "Ajeeb Dastaan" famous among youngsters.
It did not take long for the creative team of various television shows
to realise the effect Bollywood music had on their target audience,
which led to more songs being incorporated into their shows. Whether it
was a romantic date sequence filmed on the song "Bol Na Halke Halke"
from Dill Mill Gayye, a group of friends dancing to "London Thumakda" for their friend's engagement in Dil Dostii Dance, or a passionate dance duet to "Teri Meri" filmed on the leads of the popular show Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon,
Bollywood songs began to be used in a wide variety of situations on the
small screen. Read on as BollyCurry brings to you some of the recent
popular song sequences that took the television industry by a storm.
1. "Har Kisiko Nahi Milta" - Rangrasiya
A very peppy and vibrant song from the movie
Boss (2013), "Har Kisiko Nahi Milta" was the song chosen when the creatives of television show
Rangrasiya felt
the need for a romantic song for the protagonists to share a romantic
dance to. Even though this song, sung by Nikhil D'souza with lyrics by
Manoj Yadav, is reproduction of the original, it contains a certain
charm of its own. The lead pair of Paro (
Sanaya Irani) and Rudra (
Ashish Sharma) taking over the dance floor to such a passionate song was a
treat for the viewers of
Rangrasiya.
2. "Dua" - Beintehaa
"Dua", from the movie
Shanghai (2012),
a song which conveys pain and helplessness, was used in the popular
show "Beintehaa". Sung by Nandini Srikar,
Arijit Singh and Shekhar
Ravjiani, and composed by
Vishal Dadlani -
Shekhar Ravjiani, this song
was used to portray
the vulnerability of Zain (
Harshad Arora) and Aaliya (
Preetika Rao)
who were getting married to each other against their will. The
juxtaposition of this song in the sequence portrayed their anguish
perfectly without a need of single dialogue.
3. "Teri Galliyan" - Ye Hai Mohabbatein
Whenever
"Teri Galliyan" is played, the listener is forced to stand and sway to
the music. The popularity of this song and its melodious music is the
reason why the creative team of
Ye Hai Mohabbatein chose this
song to be played while Raman (
Karan Patel) and Ishita (
Divyanka Tripathi) dance in the background and a jealous Shagun (
Anita Hassanandani) looks on. A song which has taken over the nation, "Teri
Galliyan" from the successful movie
Ek Villian (2014) has been sung and composed by Ankit Tiwari and written by Manoj Muntashir.
4. "Allah Waariyan" - Kumkum Bhagya

A song which tells the tale of not separating from the person you love, "Allah Waariyan" from the youth film
Yaariyan (2014) is used in Balaji Telefilm's show
Kumkum Bhagya
whenever Abhi (
Shabbir Ahluwalia) and Pragya (
Sriti Jha) come face to
face. A much loved song by the audience, it has been sung by the
talented Shafqat Amanat Ali and written and composed by Arko Pravo
Mukherjee. The song was an instant success at the time of release, and
continues to endear us to Abhi and Pragya whenever it plays on screen.
5. "Saathiya Ye Tu Ne Kya Kiya" - Pavitra Rishta
While the whole song may not have been used regularly by makers of Balaji Telefilm's long running show
Pavitra Rishta,
it has become the theme song for the lead couple of Archana (
Ankita Lokhande) and Manav (
Sushant Singh Rajput/
Hiten Tejwani). The music is
mostly loved for its simplicity and also because the majority of the
viewers are from the same era this song belongs to. "Saathiya Tu Ne Kya
Kiya" is from the movie
Love (1991) and is sung by the extremely versatile Chitra K. S. and
S.P. Balasubramaniam.
6. "Jhin Min Jheeni" - Qubool Hai

Used recently in 4 Lions Films' path-breaking show
Qubool Hai for a dance sequence during Aahil (
Karanvir Bohra) and Nida's
mehendi,
the "Jhin Min Jheeni" song segment had the protagonist Sanam (
Surbhi Jyoti) dancing to this song joyfully. A song sung by Sadhna Sargam and
Anuradha Sriram, written by
Gulzar and composed by
Vishal Bhardwaj, this
popular song is often played in weddings and is known for its sweet
lyrics and well composed music. The song is from the movie
Maqbool (2003).
The above are just a few Bollywood songs used in
popular shows that are still on air today. Other recent noted song
sequences that had Tellywood fans squeal in delight include: "Tera Hero
Idhar Hai" from Veera, "Samjhawaan" from Sadda Haq and "Dhiktana
Dhiktana" from Pyaar Ka Dard Hai...Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara. What was
