Hariharan also celebrates his 57th
birthday today!
Hariharan was born in 1955 in Kerala.
Commendably,
he graduated with a degree in Science and Law and learnt Carnatic music
from his mother. Later on, he continued to learn Hindustani music, which
soon became his passion. He loved listening to ghazals and was highly
inspired by late Jagjit Singh.
Hariharan started his career in Tamil cinema with the movie
Roja (1992),
directed
by Mani Rathnam and composed by
A.R. Rahman. He has since lent his voice
to various songs in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Bhojpuri, Telugu, Kannada,
Marathi and the Bengali languages. Further ahead in
1996,
Hariharan formed the band 'Colonial Cousins' with Mumbai-based
composer, Leslie Lewis and in 2004, he was awarded the prestigious Padma
Shri, Yesudas and the National Award for his outstanding performance in
music. He is currently appearing in a music show on Jaya TV.
