Karan Johar's upcoming release Kurbaan has been targeted by Shiv Sena
who have objected to the promotional posters baring Bebo's back. The party went as far as sending Kareena a saree urging her to cover up!
According
to Sena activist Jitendra Janawale, the posters stand against
Maharashtra's Hindu culture which has led to several complaints - most
notably from concerned parents of school children. Over 100 Shiv
Sainiks came forward to protest as they tore apart the posters on the
streets of Juhu, Marol and other parts of Andheri. The party has
threatened that if all the posters are not removed immediately then
protests will continue until the release of the film.
When
approached at a promotional event for the film, Kareena declined to
comment. It was beau Saif who came forward and promised that if the
promotional images have offended anyone unknowingly then the matter
would be looked in to. However, the material has already been passed by
the censor board and according to Saif, it is nothing but tasteful.
While
such controversies are anything but rare in tinsel town one does wonder
if all the 'politically' posed opposition is as averse as the projected
intention - realistically, such protests can only be a source of
drawing attention from an audience which could have with usual
promotions remained indifferent.
BollyCurry on its part would just like to wish Johar and Saifeena all the best for their upcoming movie.
