Being a new comer in Bollywood, Tina Desai has already bagged a role against
Dev Patel in a Hollywood flick.
In a candid chat with Bollycurry, the glamour girl speaks about her experience as an actor.
You have four movies in the lap; could you please tell us about your characters in each?I am playing the protagonist in Yeh Fasle directed by Yogesh. She is a girl who
has been sent to boarding school from childhood and she is in the
pursuit of truth about the death of her mother who has been apparently killed by her
father and he is hiding the truth. Then there is Sharafat Gayi Tel Lene
in which I am paired against
Zayed Khan and I play the love interest of
his, who encourages and supports him in his ventures when he falls in the
pitfall of a con job. I am also lucky to get paired opposite
Dev Patel
in a Hollywood movie The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel which is directed by
John Madden. In the fourth movie I am playing a cameo role which is the
crucial point of the movie at the same time.
You have been lucky enough to get yourself in Hollywood; what differences have you felt in the process? The
work is super organized over there and everybody is on time on the sets
and there is no such thing as delay. And also there is no such thing as
hierarchy. I have learnt a lot from the experience over there
because the acting itself is in a different manner. The interaction that
I had with them was really great and being great actors they all are
very down to earth and very simple. Acting in a Hollywood movie was something
that happened beyond dream.
You have acted with the talented actor Anupam Kher; how was the experience? The
film with
Anupam Kher is Yeh Fasle and that is my first movie and the
role was emotionally very demanding. Since it is story of a father
daughter relation, most of my scenes are with
Anupam Kher. Even before
the movie started, he sat with me and asked me to study on the minute
details about the character that I haven't even thought about. He used
to have a say in the costumes and makeup. Since he too has an acting
school, he very well understands and knows how to deal with new comers.
He also has a great sense of humour and I also felt that he was somewhere
similar to my dad.
You have come after working as a model in ads; have you felt tough in fitting yourself in the industry?I
thought it would be difficult, but after I did nearly ninety odd ads, I
took the movie as another bigger ad that I have to complete. Also
the preparation for each movie has been extensive and very good because,
all the doubts and questions were cleared before hand and there had
been workshops also for two weeks.
People know you as Tina Desai, a girl who we see in ads; can you tell us something about yourself?I
am from Bangalore and I have completed my BBM from NIM, Bangalore. I
was one of the participants of Get Gorgeous and now it has been four years
in Mumbai.
What is you dream role?I have not really given a
thought on that because I don't know if I can really replicate any role.
But I would like to do fantasy movies like Alice in Wonderland etc.
Have you ever come across the tag of model turned actor?Yes, but I think over the years we have proved that models can act and I do not think we can typecast like that.
