August 2016 saw a mix of good and bad films at the box-office. The four major releases of the month were;
Rustom,
Mohenjo Daro, Happy Bhaag Jayegi and
A Flying Jatt.
As we near the end of the month here is the total box-office collections of the movies. The month started on a high note with the clash of two major films,
Mohenjo Daro and
Rustom on the Independence Day weekend. Made at cost of over 100cr,
Ashutosh Gowarikar's magnum opus,
Mohenjo Daro didn't seem to charm the audience and ended at a total collection of Rs.
55.06 crores.While
Mohenjo Daro didn't work wonders at the Box-office, its fellow release,
Rustom, shinned brightly. The
Akshay Kumar starrer, minted over
120cr. at the box-office, making it the winner of the clash. While
Rustom crossed the 100cr mark in India,
Mohenjo Daro crossed 100cr. worldwide.
The next release 'Happy Bhaag Jayegi' was a light hearted movie and did quite a decent business through word of mouth. At the end of 10 days the movie did a decent business of around
22cr. This rom-com, stared; Daina Penty,
Abhay Deol, Jimmy Shergil and
Ali Fazal.
the last release of the month was Remo D'souza's '
A Flying Jatt'. Releasing on the auspicious occasion of
janamashtami it made a little more than
7cr. on its opening day. The
Tiger Shroff starrer had a four-day weekend, at the end of which the film stands at a total collection of almost
29cr. till now.
