Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda adopted nine horses on Saturday, who will now live at his farmhouse in Gurgaon. These horses were fighting for their lives a few years ago, and were rescued by an animal welfare NGO named Friendicoes.
They will now get a chance to participate in racing events and lead a comfortable life - all thanks to the actor.
"Just as humans want to earn money through hard work and lead a life of dignity, these high-breed horses will take part in racing events to earn themselves nobility. I learnt about these starving horses in an Aligarh stud farm through news reports. I read Friendicoes had rescued them. They were eating plaster and bricks from the walls of the stud farm. It really saddened me," he said. [sic]
According to reports, these nine horses are a part of a group of 49 racehorses who were on the verge of dying due to starvation in an Aligarh-based farmhouse.
They ate plaster and debris out of hunger, and were very ill when Friendicoes rescued them in December 2013. Seven of them couldn't survive during treatment, and all others were suffering from multiple diseases. They were kept in a Gurgaon-based stud farm for treatment and rehabilitation for three years. 18 more died over the past two years and only 24 horses are now alive.
Randeep Hooda added that he wanted to adopt them earlier, but he didn't have a proper space for rehabilitation.
He has now bought a farmhouse in Gurgaon, where he had set up a polo club that is home to more than 40 superior-breed racing horses.
"It is nice to see that a renowned personality like Randeep Hooda has come forward to help animals. We also have over 400 bears in three rehabilitation centres in Agra, Purulia and Bengaluru. Most of these bears were rescued from the clutches of street magicians. Eleven elephants and a leopard were also rescued," said Friendicoes chairperson, Geeta Sheshamani. [sic]
The horses seem to be given a rebirth All thanks to Randeep!
