Southern superstars laud Kamal Haasan's 50 years in filmdom

Chennai Sep 29 (IANS) Southern cinema's biggest names, Rajinikant, Venkatesh, Mohanlal and Mammootty, came together under one-roof to celebrate Kamal Hassan's five decades in showbiz.

'The industry is proud to have an actor who could be looked upon as a fitting role model for the upcoming heroes,' said Mohanlal while praising his esteemed colleague at the grand function organised by actor Vijay here Monday.

Prabhu Deva, his father Sundaram, Shobana and students of John Britto dance school presented dance items, while Vivek, Parthiban and Jayaram took turns to compere the show along with Gopinath.

Radhika Sarathkumar organised an interactive session where Kamal chatted with yesteryears actresses like Gautami, Revathi, Rohini, Jaya Chitra, Lissy, Tabu, Urvasi and Meena.

'All my co-actors have made my work experience pleasant and they have been an integral part of my learning experience,' said Kamal.

'Kamal unplugged', a music performance by Hariharan and S.P. Balasubramaniam, was also presented at the occasion. It was followed by Kamal's daughter Shruti Haasan's performance. She teamed up with Ilayaraja for a medley of evergreen film songs picturised on the versatile actor.

A.R. Rahman, producer A.V.M. Saravanan, veteran actress Saroja Devi, directors Balachandar, Balu Mahendra, S.P. Muthuraman, Dharani, Mysskin, A.R. Murugadoss were present among others.
