Over the years, Bollywood has always managed to somehow stir the feeling of patriotism within us. Most times, it's by giving us some inspiring songs dedicated to our motherland. These songs have always reminded us of our undying love for our nation. As a result, this Independence Week, Bollycurry decided to make its own patriotic allegiance by compiling a few of the most compelling tracks sung in honour of India.

"Aye Mere Vatan Ke Logon"

Sung in melodious voice of Lata Mangeshkar, the song is more than a decade old. However, what remains constant over the years is the power to make us feel the spirit of nationality. When Mangeshkar sung this song for the first time, it captivated the audience so much, that even Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru moved to tears. The song captures the essence of patriotism beautifully, making us remember the sacrifices of the martyrs who fought until their last breath to make the country independent - those who played with blood, when we played Holi.

"Vande Mataram"

Written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, and sung by Lata Mangeshkar, "Vande Mataram" is like an anthem for India. "Vande Mataram", which means I bow down to thee - Mother', is actually a Pre-Independence song. It embodies the entire nation's thought and motto for independence. The lyrics are so powerful, that it managed to make us imagine what India was, is and always will be.

"Yeh Desh Hai Veer Jawano Ka"

Released in 1957, this song was sung by Mohammed Rafi and Balbeer. The track is from Naya Daur. Penned by Sahir Ludhianvi, this happy-go-lucky song makes us smile and dance to the tunes of O.P Nayyar. It reminds us that our country have many heroes - who are brave, stoic, and always ready to sacrifice their lives for the country.

"Des Rangila"

This energetic Bollywood patriotic song, from the movie Fanaa(2006), was sung by Mahalakshmi Iyer. This song featured Kajol, who grabbed viewers' eyeballs with her wonderful dancing. The song defines and describes India in a fascinating way, telling us that India is packed with many vibrant colours, which go together harmoniously - the land of unity in diversity.

"Maa Tujhe Salaam"

A.R Rahman presented "Maa Tujhe Salaam" in a modern avatar. The lyrics, an ode to our motherland, captures the profound love for our motherland. This soulful song, which states that our motherland is our first love, was released in 1997.

"Des Mere"

Melodious and captivating, this A. R. Rahman and Sukhwinder Singh number is from the movie, The Legend Of Bhagat Singh (2002). The song tells the story of how a true Indian and patriot loves his country and can sacrifice his own life when the time comes. Truly, Des Mere Meri Jaan Hai Tu!

The aforementioned songs are just the tip of the iceberg. There are numerous other songs released over the years that praise our country and countrymen alike. All these songs have one thing in common - love for the Motherland. Whether or not we're residents of India, or NRIs, we are always true Indians in our hearts. How did you show your patriotism this year? Let us know in the comments below.
