Music Trends Outside Bollywood!

Music is the soul of entertainment industry, be it with regards to Hollywood or Bollywood. Years back, when Hollywood was introduced to opera, Bollywood was introduced to the beats of the tabla and shehnai. Over the years, music has flourished. But did anything change? Yes and No. What didn't change was the existence of music in our movies. However, what really changed were the various forms of music. On taking a closer look, one would realise that that there are various trends of music existing. We all know what music trends exists in Bollywood, but are we aware of the various trends apart from those we've heard in our movies? In this article, BollyCurry shines its spotlight on a few such trends, which haven't been explored too much in Bollywood.

Indie Rock
Now don't get confused, this music is nothing similar to the ones that exist in India under the label of "Indipop". Originated in the United Kingdom, this is a diverse kind of music consisting of various sub genres. Many characterize this genre of music as a careful balance of pop accessibility with noise, sensitive lyrics with ironic posturing, and a good experimentation with pop music.  But no matter how we characterise it, one has to agree that this music really works due to its harmless and palatable nature and it is loved by one and all. Am I right or am I right?

Dubstep
Travel back in time and you'll realise that most of the yesteryear radio stations swore by dubstep. Originated in England, this music consists of syncopated drum beats accompanied with percussion patterns and bass lines. In recent times, it appears as if dubstep has become the new Hollywood favorite. Britney Spears used dubstep beats in her 2007 track "Freakout," and then again in 2011 with "Hold it Against Me", followed by Rihanna in some of her tracks. One can't help but wonder, however, that if this music is going continue its evolution, and artists are willing to explore it, we really need someone to let us know how exactly is one supposed to dance to these damn songs!

Whistling
Whistling seems to be an emerging trend not only in Hollywood, but also Bollywood. Lower the tongue tip, place behind the lower teeth, and alter pitch by varying the position of the tongue and voila! You are whistling music! While Hollywood had some Billboard ruling tracks like "Good Life" by One Republic and "Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster the People, Bollywood is also not behind, latest being "Whistle Bajaa" from Heropanti. Well, all we can say is that whether haunting or jaunty, whistling can really make a song distinctive.

Country Music
Another trend that is very popular outside Bollywood, is Country. Country takes its roots from the south eastern genre of American folk music and Western music. Consisting of ballads and dance tunes with simple forms and harmonies, accompanied by instruments such as banjos, electric and acoustic guitars, and fiddles, this genre seems to be everyone's favourite. Recently, it appears as if Bollywood has been trying to introduce the audiences to it, when they gave us "Filmain Shilmain" from Desi Boyz. Well, we at BollyCurry are not complaining, and would love to hear more of it! Don't

Given the myriad of trends and genres of music outside Bollywood, it is not possible for us to focus on all of them. We can already see that some of them have started to make its way to Bollywood, and we at BollyCurry are eager to listen to more. Comment below and let us know what's your favorite genre of music that you'd love to see in Bollywood!
