The month of festivals has already crossed the halfway mark with many more celebrations to come and so today, BollyCurry celebrates one such event, Eid al-Adha. The occasion is marked by the sighting of the moon in each country. The same moon that gives purity to the darkness of the nights and is an essential part of our lives. Thus, on this occasion, we bring to you songs from Bollywood movies exclusively dedicated to the moon.

"Gali Mein Aaj Chand Nikhla"

This composition from the film Zakhm starred Pooja Bhatt and Ajay Devgn. The film wasn't noticed much but the song did manage to grab some listeners with it's sooth compositions. Sung by the queen of melodies, Alka Yagnik, this song was composed by M.M Kareem. Give this song a try if you are looking for a sad song.

"Chalo Dildar Chalo"

Yesteryear's blockbuster film Pakeezah, starring Ashok Kumar and Meena Kumari, had a song describing a full moon night. To add fondness to the song, Kumari was seen dancing to the tune with grace and beauty, despite being a non-dancer in real life. Singing legends Mohammed Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar lent their voice to this composition created by Ghulam Mohammed and Naushad Ali. There is a common say that old is gold and songs like these prove it right.

"Pyaar Kar"

From Dil To Pagal Hai starring Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor, the track was one of Yashraj Films' biggest hits. This romantic song had SRK and Dixit dancing to their own tunes and trying to imagine individually what love is while a hesitant Kapoor hides her secret love for SRK. With the perfect combination of lyrics and composition, it's no wonder the song won many hearts.

"Chand Chupa"

Next is Sanjay Leela Bhansali's love saga, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam which featured Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Ajay Devgn in the lead roles. This slow romantic melody composed by Ismail Darbaar had all the elements that bring out a perfect compositions, be it the lyrics, the sounds, the feel and above all, the perfect pairing. You may hear this song countless times but never feel like changing it, and that is the magic of this song.

"Khoya Khoya Chaand"

You may already be familiar with the lyrics of this song as it has been remixed lately with different flavors. However, all we can say is that the original song from Kala Bazar, featuring Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman in lead roles, stands strong in the race. This is yet another Mohammed Rafi and S.D Burman superhit combo and was penned down by lyricist Shailendra. Now it's your turn to decide which version you prefer more, even if the original set the tone.

"Chanda Re"

This song belonged to the 1997 film Sapnay starring South Indian stars Arvind Swamy and Prabhudeva opposite Kajol Devgn. The film garnered many awards with maestro A.R. Rahman at the helm of the music composition. It has the typical yet fantastical A.R Rahman touch and the voices of Hariharan and Sadhna Sargam singing it out, thus making us tune into this song at least once.

"Chand Sifarish"

The Aamir Khan and Kajol starrer Fanaa might have been declared a blockbuster but it's major success story comes from its music. One such track was "Chand Sifarsh" sung by the very talented Shaan and composed by Jatin-Lalit. This song featured Aamir Khan as a tourist guide singing for Kajol while they were in Delhi at a tour. Laced with sher and shayari you can't help but smirk at some of the lyrics.

"Chand Sitaare"

This magical song from Hrithik Roshan's debut superhit, Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, still has us reminiscing about softer and soother melodies. Being one of the more romantic tracks in the album, this song had Hrithik Roshan playing strumming his guitar and singing for the birthday girl, Amisha Patel. The song was composed by Rajesh Roshan while Kumar Sanu lent his blessed vocals.

"Chanda Hai Tu Mera Suraj Hai Tu"

The Rajesh Khanna, Sharmila Tagore and Farida Jalal starrer Aradhana was the highest grossing film of 1969. Not to avoid is the fact that the film had an excellent set of songs which are still remembered to this day. However, this song had a different backdrop when compared to the other romantic melodies in this list. The song, sung by Lata Mangeshkar and composed by S.D Burman, is pictured on a mother singing to her young son and is more of a lullaby.

"Chand Mera Dil"

Here is the last song in the list and it belongs to the 1977 action thriller Hum Kisise Kum Naheen starring Rishi Kapoor and Kajal Kiran. With a lot of action and suspense in the movie, this soft melody, sung by Mohammad Rafi, was a pleasant surprise and the lead pair did full justice. Though the film had other songs which were more popular, this song deserves a thumbs up as well.

Be it  chand, chandni or chanda, each song has its own uniqueness and style which the lyricists and music composers have brought out magically. They have used the significance of the moon and depicted it's value quite effortlessly, making us dream of it even in the day! There are many more songs specialized on the moon so let us know below while we hope that you enjoyed these mesmerizing moon songs as much as we did!
