Best known for his comic timing, and well appreciated for his comedy films, like Masti, Housefull, and many more, Riteish Deshmukh in a chat with india-forums.com, speaks about the varied kinds of roles he has been doing, his equation with comedy and also about his personal life.

You are doing a lot of different kind of role, so is this a conscious decision?

Yes it is a conscious decision to a certain extend. Like when I was thinking of production, Balak Palak came by at that time and thankfully people liked it, because of its uniqueness. So when we were looking for the next project, Yellow happened. Because it is unique we even won a National Award for it. And then Lay Bhari came where I am an actor and producer. Then there is Humshakals and Ek Villain, so it is all happening at the same time.

Was this a planned move, of everything coming together at the same time?

No, not really the thought wasn't that. I wanted Lay Bhari to release in January, but that didn't work out, it comes only in July. Humshakals was slated to a June release itself. Ek Villain should have come in April but that too is to release in June. So ideally it was supposed to be, Lay Bhari, Ek Villain and Humshakals, but everything is just going to come together. Thankfully what works in my favour is that everything is different and has a different appeal to it.

Now that you have mastered the art of comedy, so do you improvise in the scenes or are you completely a director's actor?

No, every director has a certain vision, so they would want to show a particular scene in a particular manner.

What do you have to say about the mimicry you have done of some people in the industry in quite some films of yours?

Actually all these are not mimicking those people, these are imitating bad imitations to them done by others (laughs). When you mimic someone, what you do is, you take 3-4 traits of that person and then you exaggerate it. Like if I have to do Saif, I would go like "oh wow!" (Laughs) It's like synonymous to him. If I have to do Shahrukh I have to do the stammering bit. So, it's like that.

Is it difficult to switch from such different characters you are doing in Humshakals and Ek Villain?

I just hope the films work, or else I will be really sad. Like when anyone asks me how can you switch so easily? I say, 'I don't know'. I guess you come into a zone, where you come to the set and just go with the flow. You can give the same expression and change the background score the entire scene would change. Like Salman Khan once asked me, "Do you know what is acting?" I said no. He said, "Acting is background score" (Laughs)

Apart from comedy what are the other genres you would like to do?

I wanted to do action drama, which I think I have done in Lay Bhari. Ek Villain is also something I am looking forward to, because I am getting a good reaction from the people. Actually I am doing a satire on terrorism and religion for Excel, so I am excited for that as well.

What is the excitement level in you, since you are going to be a father soon?

It's great, we have three kinds in the house and it's quite exciting.

Well, be it a hero or a villain, we wish Riteish Deshmukh all the best for all the roles he dons in his movies or even his personal life.
