KJo buys rights to 'Stepmom'

Creativity is simply out the door for Bollywood these days. From big budget projects to low budget projects, Bollywood movies always seems to be "inspired" by Hollywood movies these days. This "inspiration" syndrome has even caught on with renowned director, Karan Johar. Earlier Johar announced that he will be making the B-Town version of Hollywood venture, 'Stepmom'. In fact, the director has roped in the K3G sisters, Kajol and Kareena, to essay the roles that Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts played in 'Stepmom'.

Furthermore, news has it that Karan Johar has actually bought the rights for 'Stepmom' to not cause controversy in the near future. 'Stepmom' is about a woman who marries a man with children. She has to deal with the children and her husband's ex-wife who is a big part of the children's lives.

The shooting for the Bollywood version of 'Stepmom' is anticipated to start after KJo is done with 'My Name is Khan.' Buzz also has it that the venture will be directed by Siddharth Malhotra.

Will the Bollywood version of 'Stepmom' prove to be a success? Guess only time will tell!

First of all...Kahan Julia Roberts aur kahan Kareena Kapoor....secondly...SRK-Kajol is a hit jodi...now you r turning them into ex''s? for Kareena? can this pairing be any weird? I mean SRK-Kareena is a good pair..but SRK-Kajol is a classic...

You''ve got it right.. .Step mom had more to do with the issues of sacrifices, insecurities of the two women and their subseqent understanding. Susan didnt even know she was about to die at the time of divorce and she resented Julia. Also, Julia was a very hip and independent character initially.

Good for him. First off for buying the rights when he''s doing a remake or adaptation. This is rarely done by b''wood directors when they get inspired or copy.
Second for bringing such a wonderful story to the Indian cinema. I doubt very much that a majority of the aam janta has seen Stepmom. Now I just hope K does justice to the story line.

btw.. If I remember correctly, Julia and Richard were already involved in a relationship during/after Susan + Richard''s divorce. Susan wasn''t encouraging him to go get married in order to get a nanny for the children after she dies (from cancer). Also Julia initially had no interest in child-rearing, etc. The main themes in the story were: dealing with death and separation (Susan + kids), developing maternal instincts (Julia), and bonding (Julia + Susan + kids). Further, if memory serves, Richard didn''t have much to do in the film other than look pretty... I wonder if K will change that in his film since the hero plays a large role in typical b''wood films.

wait what? Stepmom is NOT about an ex-wife! Stepmom was about this woman who married this guy, had kids, and was diagnosed with some life threatening disease. She was told she would die soon. So she urges the husband to get a new wife so she would take care of her children. He does. And the whole movie is about the 1st wife and kids adjusting to this new woman who really just wants to be part of their lives instead of taking the 1st woman''s place. It was a beautiful movie not some Ekta crap drama that Karan is going to turn this into. Jeez...i hate B-version movies that fail to capture the actual essence of the original movie. Gggh!!
