The dream girl and the He-man fell for each other on the sets of Tum Haseen Mein Jawaan in the year 1970. At that time Dharmendra was already a married man. He had two boys, Sunny and Bobby with his wife Prakash Kaur. Still, he fell madly in love with this evergreen beauty and wooed her for 10 years.

Initially Hema Malini didn't respond to his proposals. She was not keen to be involved with a married man. Dharmendra kept his charm going and Hema had no escape. She too fell head over heels in love with him and the two got into the matrimonial bond forever.

The couple decided to convert to Islam because Dharmendra's wife Prakash refused to divorce him. Hema's father opposed the marriage but the two got married after his demise.
