Music Video Review - Dillagi

Qawwali maestro Rahat Ali Khan's latest single in collaboration with T-Series and Salim-Sulaiman featuring Huma Qureshi and Vidyut Jammwal released on 8th June 2016.

Bhushan Kumar headed T-Series' last outing was the peppy "GF BF" which went on to become a sensation among the youth. Emerging as a complete contrast to that is their newest venture "Dillagi", featuring Huma Qureshi, Vidyut Jammwal, and voiced by Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. The romantic rendition is an adaptation of the King of Qawwali and Khan's uncle, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's "Tumhe Dillagi Bhool Jaani Padegi". Coincidentally, Khan's popular single "Zaroori Tha" from his rock album Back 2 Love released on this very same day two years ago.

As the first look promised, the song is high on sentiments and key. It starts off with an engaging melody, transcending into a contemporary tune, notably held together by the tabla. Admittedly, Khan's voice needs no validation. His dynamic and distinctive voice breathes life into this number as he flows from one note to another, escalating and plunging between pitches almost effortlessly. Music director duo Sailm-Sulaiman's much-needed modern touch balances the powerful vocals and classical instrumentals. Award-winning Manoj Muntashir has fairly modified the lyrics, doing justice to late Purnam Allahbadi's iconic writing.

Picturized in Goa by director-turned-cinematographer Kiran Deohans, the video has a rather dramatic touch to it with Qureshi and Jammwal as the lead pair. Revolving around a present-day couple's dilemma, the screenplay is half as alluring as the music is. The solo shots do radiate emotions, but the chemistry between the Badlapur (2015) actress and Commando (2013) actor is evidently deficient. Customarily, Khan also makes an impactful appearance in the video, amidst a ghazal-night setup. Deohans effectively captures some impressive locales, but those expecting a beach-view will be thoroughly disappointed.

Overall, the track is definitely a piece of soulful music and eloquent lyrics, but shall appeal more to the mature listeners; the lack of a youthful charm may cause youngsters to disconnect from it. We, at BollyCurry, rate this music video a 2.5 stars out of 5, the half going out solely for Khan's unprecedented vocals!
