Lookback at Cannes 2016

The 69th Cannes Film Festival was held from May 11th through 22nd; and like the past few years with this year being no different, many eyes were on our very own Bollywood stars. Although there were many events over the course of the Festival, we've just taken some of the most memorable outfits our Bollywood representatives graced the event with.
After all, the hawk eyes of critics worldwide were on them. Did they do us proud? Let's see below.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

The former beauty queen and current Bollywood star arrived at the screening of the film "Ma loute" (Slack Bay) in an embellished Ali Younes Couture gown, which flaunted a matching cape. Not many people would be able to pull off such an outfit, but the brand ambassador of L'Oreal Paris wore it with poise. She looked luminous with almost completely nude make-up and her hair styled in loose waves, except for a bold turquoise blue liner on her upper eyelid, complimented with smokey blue eyeshadow and bold lashes. As always, she was an ever-radiant goddess.

However, controversy abounded at the premiere of The Land Of The Moon. The ex-Miss World's pretty Rami Kadi floral off - shoulder bardot gown cut an impressive figure. Her hair was styled in a high ponytail that shifted the focus from her dress directly to her purple lips. While the look was certainly daring, and it has definitely created an impact on audiences, we're not entirely certain it worked.

Sonam Kapoor

Some people may say Sonam Kapoor plays it safe with whites and blacks, but the actress sure does set the bar high for fashionistas everywhere! The actress attended the premiere of The Land Of The Moon in a gorgeous sari-inspired Ralph & Russo caped white gown. Keeping it simple was the rule of the day, with no accessories and minimal make-up, she kept the focus on the stunning outfit she had chosen. There is a reason she is known for her fashion sense, and this is it!

Her gown for the screening of the film Loving was another Ralph & Russo creation, this time in champagne. The ensemble comprised of a column gown and a floral confection cape. Not many would be able to pull off such an outfit, but with her hair pulled back into a sleek bun and Bvlgari jewellery at her neck and ears, she was certainly worthy of the praise coming her way.

Mallika Sherawat

The Bollywood bombshell has not always managed a hit at the Cannes, but this year she wow-ed the crowds at the opening ceremony and premiere of Cafe Society in a strapless Georges Hobeika gown with golden embellishments and a blue-coloured trail. The diamond neckpiece from Maison Mellerio capped off the outfit in a very tasteful way.
She continued her streak at the premiere of Steven Spielberg's The BFG with another Georges Hobeika gown, this time in silver. Cinched at the waist, the icy number boasted peek-a-boo cut-outs and floral embellishments. The actress completed the look with De Grisogono jewellery, soft makeup and blow-dried hair. Definitely a step up from previous years.

Richa Chadda

Attending the Festival with most of the Sarbjit team, she was one of the few spotted in traditional Indian attire. The bold actress wore a gold Sabyasachi sari to the Mal De Pierres premiere, complete with a matching clutch from the same label. Her outfit was completed with a simple bindi, hair pulled back neatly into a bun, and shimmering Amrapali jewelled earrings. Wow, we say.

There you have some of the outstanding looks from this year's Cannes Film Festival. Our Bollywood representatives have definitely been stepping up their games and we are certainly a proud bunch!
