Bollywood has always been a great source of inspiration for viewers, often delivering headstrong social messages wrapped in an entertainment presentation. This year, the whole nation was celebrating India's 69th Independence Day, including the Tinsel Town celebrities. All the social media sites were flooded with inspirational posts for readers. We at BollyCurry henceforth decided to list down four such Bollywood movies that left a positive impact on audiences through a strong character that managed to touch our soul and inspire us. Be it a politician, a social worker, a protagonist, an athlete, a singer or an alien, these movies are worth watching. Take a look at what we have in store for our readers.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

A sports drama film starring ace director-producer-actor Farhan Akhtar, the 2013 movie was highly critically acclaimed worldwide. Based on the true story of the Indian athlete and Olympic runner Milkha Singh from his biography book 'The Race of My Life', the movie managed to impress both critically and commercially. Akhtar did full justice to the character with his honed athletic physique, perfect acting skills and amazing performance. He is indeed one of the most intense actors from the cinema industry today. The movie was sure to inspire all the runners, rather sportsmen, with the optimistic spirit of Milkha Singh.

Mardaani

The movie was a crime thriller released in 2014 that left the whole nation in awe by narrating and presenting the bitter truth behind the issue of girl trafficking courtesy the Indian mafia and the underworld. Rani Mukherji Chopra, an actress who never hesitates to take challenging roles, played the hard-hitting Shivani Shivaji Roy in Mardaani. The movie depicted how teenage girls are targeted for trafficking and taken abroad for smuggling. Mukerji played an investigation officer highlighting and getting to the root of such mafia in the film. The movie gathered critical appraisal across the globe with females realizing their hidden power for self-defense when the situation calls for it.

Queen

The 'London Thumakda' girl Kangana Ranaut went on to rule the nation with her comedy-drama film Queen in the year 2014. A Punjabi girl-next-door with low confidence, after suffering a heartbreak when her fiance calls off the wedding decides to go on her honeymoon all alone. To recover from the setback she goes to Paris and Amsterdam and comes back in an all new avatar oozing confidence along with an additional spark in her personality, and the ability to say 'no' to the one who left her crying and shattered when he backed off from the marriage. The movie is a must watch for the girls who want to feel confident and break free from the metaphorical shackles of life.

English Vinglish

Many of the recent Bollywood movies have been women centric and another such film to be released in the year 2012 was English Vinglish. It is a movie dedicated to all the homemakers in India, especially those who do not know how to speak English and get mocked by their family. This movie will help you gain self-respect by coming out of the inferiority zone and breaking the cocoon to attain freedom. The veteran actress Sridevi was well chosen to portray the character of Shashi in the film, as she teaches the message of not disrespecting your parents or anyone for what they lack. The film showed us that age is no bar when you are determined to learn something and an old dog can definitely be taught new tricks.

So these were a few inspirational Bollywood characters that we look up to for our shortcomings. If you happen to know any such people around you, go and recommend the movies to them to get inspired. Bollywood films are not only a good source of entertainment, but also a great medium of learning, achieving and self-discovery. Do let us know which Bollywood character you felt was worth remembering in your difficult times and gave you a pep up in the comments below.
