Coffee was not the only thing brewing when they first met at a
shoot for an advertisement in 1993. Sparks began to fly between the ever
elegant
Malaika Arora Khan and the charismatic
Arbaaz Khan then, and
they recently celebrated their 16th anniversary! This month, BollyCurry
lets the power couple take centre stage.
The versatile
actors both hail from very different backgrounds. Malaika's parents had
no connection to the Bollywood industry. Her father, Anil, was a Navy
officer while her mother, Joyce, was a homemaker. On the other hand,
Arbaaz is the son of well-known screenwriter
Salim Khan. Malaika made
her debut in 1993 with the film
Aaja Meri Jaan, and Arbaaz made his three years later as the villain in the thriller film
Daraar, which won him the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role.
Cupid
struck when the pair were shooting a commercial for Mr. Coffee in 1993.
Both claim that it was love at first sight, and they found themselves
madly in love with each other. Their courtship lasted five years, and
they finally tied the knot on 12th December 1998. The wedding was a
lavish but private affair at a chapel in Maharashtra with only close
family and friends in attendance. Soon after the wedding, Arbaaz took
his lady love to the Maldives. The couple was blessed with a son,
Arhaan, in 2002.
Like any other married couple, they have
faced some ups and downs in their relationship. In 2012, a Land Cruiser
belonging to Arbaaz rammed into a 70-year-old lady, and ended up taking
her life. Arbaaz claimed not to be in the vehicle, and when the elderly
lady's family asked for compensation, refused to pay as the family had
disowned the lady. Everything was sorted out in the end, and the driver
of the car was released on bail after he accepted that he lost control
of the vehicle.
Despite the few
problems they have faced, this stunning B-Town couple is going strong
and are extremely happy both on their personal and professional fronts. We,
at BollyCurry, sincerely wish this successful duo all the best for the
future.
