Independence Day for two big countries, India and Pakistan, is coming up one after the other. However, this year, BollyCurry has decided to celebrate both on the same day and bring to you movies that have showcased a friendship between the two.

First is the super successful Main Hoon Naa (2004). This film focuses on "Project Milaap" where both countries, India and Pakistan, are going to release several innocent prisoners who have been kept in jail for years even though they committed no crime. There are several twists and turns in the story as the plot thickens but in the end it is shown that "Project Milaap" is a success with people re-uniting with their families on both sides.

The film shows a step that we wish the countries will take in real as it would reduce much of the differences between both.

Here's another Shah Rukh Khan starrer, which was directed by Aditya Yash Chopra. The film focuses on Zaara Hayaat Khan (Preity Zinta) who has lived in Pakistan her entire life and heads to Punjab, India, for the first time to fulfill her dying old governess's last wish of scattering her ashes in the Sutlej River. There she bumps into Veer Pratap Singh (Shah Rukh Khan) and joins him on a trip to his village where she meets Veer's uncle (Amitabh Bachchan) and Aunt (Hema Malini) who raised him. The two spend time together seeing the beauty of India and talking about the beauty of Pakistan.

This movie really represented a new era where the young in both countries are not thinking about enmity, but friendship.

This movie centers around a sport that is very popular in both the countries and needs no introduction: Cricket. The movie focuses on a girl's dream to become a cricket player and join the Indian team. However, in order for her to do that, she has to dress like a man because women aren't allowed to be a part of the team. The underlying story though, brings us to a friendship between Vikram Singh (Anupam Kher) and Liyaqat Ali Khan (Dalip Tahil), who hold a competition, the Aman Cup, each year on Independence day where the cricket teams from both the countries play against each other. Their friendship is behind the Aman Cup as it is an attempt to bring both countries together on one day to enjoy a sport that is loved by all in both the countries.

This film really represents a sweet friendship where both celebrate each other's festivals and love to pull each other's legs. That's what we wish will happen one day between Indians and Pakistanis.

Last but not the least is this lesser known movie which was shown mainly at several different film festivals. Filmistaan (2013) emphasizes the fact that even though the nations are divided, they are but one when it comes to cinema. This film revolves around Sunny (Sharib Hashmi) who aspires to make it big in Bollywood. However, he was shown the door at auditions. Due to circumstances he lands up in a Pakistani village at the house of Aftab, who makes his living by selling pirated DVDs of Hindi movies. Gradually Sunny becomes familiar with the villagers and gains a deep friendship with Aftab and the villagers.

This film highlights a coming-of-friendship where two people are thrown into a situation which they didn't want, but soon end up accepting it and grow to realize that just because they live in separate countries they are not separate people.

Although there have been many films based on India-Pakistan relationship these are those which depicted mutual unity and friendship among the people. BollyCurry conveys Independence Day wishes to people from both the countries!
