Bollywood has proven time and again that romance is its forte, giving us some epic love stories where two soul mates prove to be the epitome of true love. Actors breathe life into these characters and often two actors manage to create so much chemistry that their pairing proves to be a hit not once, but multiple times. BollyCurry brings to you a list of such magical on-screen couples that went down in the history of Indian Cinema.

In the success party of a Telugu film, Guru Dutt spotted Waheeda Rehman and decided to groom her into acting for Hindi films. They were first paired opposite each other in the soulful and romantic movie, Pyaasa (1957).Today, the film is among the top 25 Bollywood movies that are labelled a 'Must See'. Waheeda Rehman considered Guru Dutt to be her mentor and their pair gave numerous hits together like Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959), Chaudhvin Ka Chand (1960) and Sahib, Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962). Personal differences and the early death of Guru Dutt saw the end of this couple on silver-screen; but even decades later, they continue to be cherished as one of the most evergreen couples of Bollywood.

Raj Kapoor and Nargis were first paired opposite each other in Aag (1948) where they played childhood sweethearts. They ruled the silver-screens for almost a decade working in sixteen films, including classics like Andaz (1949), Barsaat (1949), Awaara (1951), Bewafa (1952) and Shree 420 (1955). Their last movie together was Jagte Raho (1956), which had Nargis only in a guest appearance.

Dharmendra Singh Deol and Hema Malini were first seen opposite each other in Tum Haseen Main Jawaan (1970) followed by many other films; but the movie which made them a blockbuster couple was Seeta Aur Geeta (1972). They went on to give numerous hits over almost two decades including acclaimed films like Sholay (1975), Charas (1976), Dream Girl (1977), Chacha Bhatija (1977) and Dillagi (1978). On-screen chemistry spilled off-screen as these two superstars decided to tie the knot despite the fact that Dharmendra was a married man with children. For this purpose, they converted to Islam, so that Dharmendra could maintain both his relationships.

Do Anjaane (1976) saw Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha cast opposite each other for the first time. Their hit pairing was repeated in blockbusters like Khoon Pasina (1977), Muqaddar Ka Sikandar (1978) and Suhaag (1979). Their last and most remembered movie is Silsila (1981). It was rumored that the duo had an affair while filming Silsila; However, decades later, Bachchan still continues to deny it.

Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol Devgn came together for the first time in Baazigar (1993) and almost two decades later, this magical duo is still one of the most loved couples of Bollywood. They've worked together in superhits like Karan Arjun (1995), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001). Their most remembered and cherished movie is Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995), which ran for more than 500 weeks at a theater in Mumbai. Their last movie together was My Name Is Khan (2010) and even today fans continue to wish to see them paired opposite each other.

When it comes to love and romance, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) is an iconic movie which is regarded as Bollywood's Romeo and Juliet. Its leads, Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla, shot to fame overnight, credit to the success of the film. Their pairing proved to be lovable as they were cast together in several movies after that, the most remembered of which are comedy-dramas like Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke (1993) and Ishq (1997).

Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit Nene gave hits together like Saajan (1991) and Dil Tera Aashiq (1993) but their most successful movie was Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994) which is considered to be one of the biggest blockbusters of Bollywood. They also shared screen-space in Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam (2002) though they weren't paired opposite each other.

Salman Khan and Karisma Kapur were first seen together in Jaagruti (1992). They were also paired opposite each other in movies like Andaz Apna Apna (1994) which is considered a cult movie despite being a flop in its day and Judwaa (1997), which was a hit. Their most remembered movie is Biwi No.1 (1999) which was the biggest hit of the year. Apart from playing romantic leads, Salman and Karisma also shared screen-space in Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999) where they were paired opposite Sonali Bendre and Saif Ali Khan respectively.

Govinda and Karisma Kapur are considered to be the jodi with perhaps the most unique chemistry in Bollywood. First seen together in Muqabla (1993), they are most loved for their pairing in comedy movies like Raja Babu (1994), Coolie No.1 (1995), Saajan Chale Sasural (1996) and Hero No.1 (1997).

Last but not least, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, who are regarded as one of the most romantic couples of Bollywood started their journey with Zehreela Insaan (1974). They've starred together in memorable movies like Rafoo Chakkar (1975), Khel Khel Mein (1975) and Kabhie Kabhie (1976). Their most successful film together was Amar Akbar Anthony (1977), which completed a golden jubilee and was the biggest blockbuster of its time. Their last movie together as young actors was Dhan Daulat (1980), after which they got married. After 29 years, this couple was seen together again in Love Aaj Kal (2009) in a special appearance. As man and wife, their first proper film together was Do Dooni Chaar (2010), exactly 30 years after their marriage and their last movie together. On-screen, their last appearance was a cameo in Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012).

Some couples live on in the audience's hearts forever as their magic cannot be duplicated. As Indian Cinema completes 100 years, BollyCurry reminisces these scintillating duos who continue to be loved and cherished even after decades!
