No seriously, Why this Kolaveri Di?

The rage this chartbuster has become is evident from the near 2 million rave reviews and over 23 million hits on YouTube it has received, and still counting! A success so instant and enormous seems larger than life – and the very phrase 'Kolaveri Di' has become an all age phenomenon in its self.

The story of the song that 'India and the world can't stop listening to' is spectacular, and somewhat incredulous when the artists claim it took a mere 25 minutes to be composed and written. The lyrics are gibberish, tune catchy - and desis world over can't stop humming Kolaveri Di

Not limited to Indians, this Tamil track, currently a global entertainment anthem, has already been dubbed in Japanese, English, Gujrati and Rajasthani by various singers and bands. Interestingly, it is ace singer Sonu Nigam's 4 year old boy Nevan Nigam, who's 'milk song' version of the original 'soup song' has garnered a response nearly as overwhelming as the original by Dhanush!

So wide spread has been the instant acclaim, that the song has now made it to the TIME's top 10 list in the entertainment podium, in league with Anna Hazare and late Satya Sri Sai Baba, the only other Indian names to make it to their respective lists.

While majority have gone with the flow of the trend to accept and appreciate Kolaveri Di, there have been exceptions, and eminent ones at that. Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar took to Twitter to express his critique – "Tune ordinary, singing substandard. Words an insult to sensibility" [(c)Twitter] –    an opinion that fetched him response in staggering numbers, albeit mixed. While some called him jealous, others praised him for belling the cat.

Anirudh Ravichander, the mere 21 year old out-of-college-superstar who's too overwhelmed on the success of his maiden composition revealed how he was happy that his song had reached Javed Sahab's ears and that was all he could've ever wished for and would always seek his blessings. He also said that everybody has the right to voice their opinions and one should always remain entitled to them.

Each to their own indeed. So what's you take on Kolaveri Di – epitome of feat or fortune?!
