The Queen of many hearts, Rani Mukerji (formally spelled as Mukherjee), today turns 33 years old.

Born on this date of March 21st, in 1978, the actress belongs to a Bengali family with cinema running in the genes - father Ram Mukherjee a retired director, mother Krishna a former playback singer, and brother Raja a producer turned director - but her better known and more popular family connexions consist of cousins Kajol Devgn (actress) and Ayan Mukherjee (director and writer).

Rani went to Maneckji Cooper High School in Juhu then went on to complete her graduation from Mithibai College, Mumbai. A trained dancer, the lovely actress begun formal training in Odissi from as early as when she was in the tenth grade.

Her acting career started off with a cameo in her father's Bengali film, Biyer Phool (1992). Five years later she debuted in Bollywood with Raja Ki Aayegi Ki Baraat (1997) which although a flop at BO, granted her a Star Screen Award. Mukerji returned to her studies in college, without giving up on her dreams. She made a comeback in 1998 with Ghulam, opposite Aamir Khan, which did provide her with her blissful first taste of commercial success. Karan Johar's Kuch Kuch Hota Hai with SRK and Kajol came next the same year, and was an even bigger blockbuster at BO. For the latter, Rani claimed her first Filmfare that year.

A line of average or below average films followed the mega success. Until in 2004, the release of the epic romantic drama, Veer Zaara, hit the halls. While the movie did exceedingly well overall, Rani won not only an exponential rise in her fan following, but also significant critical acclaim.

Other movies she has done over the span of the past decade have included the likes of Hum Tum, Black, Mangal Pande, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum (cameo), Tara Rum Pum, Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic, Dil Bole Hadippa, et al, of which a few were positive hits.

Her most recent movie, released in January this year, was No one Killed Jessica, a movie representation of the real life case of Jessica Lal's murder. Co-starring Vidya Balan, the movie granted a much needed successful relief to Rani's recently dwindling career.

And with the new year well begun on that note, we hope this year of Rani's life shall thrive upon not only much more professional gain, but also some happy news on the personal front (read: becoming a long awaited Mrs. Rani Aditya Chopra!)

BollyCurry wishes the gorgeous diva a very happy birthday!
