Making a statement of her own ever since her advent into Bollywood midway in the past decade. In this short time of a few years, Kangana has managed to stand out uniquely and impress audiences and critics alike with her onscreen talent.

Born to a school teacher Asha and a business man Amardeep in a small town called Bhamla in Himachal Pradesh on March 20, 1987, Kangana to DAV model school Sector 15 in Chandigarh, before proceeding to obtain a Bachelor of Art's Degree from the Government College for Girl's (GCG) Sector 11.

Not satisfied with the mundane future options that her field of study offered in general, and having been interested in the glam world since her early days, she decided to move to Mumbai where she joined the Elite Modeling Agency as an aspiring model.

Famous film-maker Mahesh Bhatt discovered Ranaut at a cafe in September 2005. He offered her the leading role for his upcoming project Gangster to which she readily took up.
The film became a commercial success, giving her an ideal debut boost in the industry where she had no inside links to promote her otherwise. She followed it up with her lead role in Woh Lamhe (2006) which was yet again a hit at BO, while also getting her nods from the critics.

While her next two, Life in a...Metro and Shakalaka Boom Boom went mostly unnoticed, her consistent performance won her a coveted spot in Bhandarkar's Fashion (2008) which fetched her first National Film Award in the category of Best Supporting Actress, very early on in her career. The same movie also won her the Filmfare in the same category for that year.

There have been other movies that have followed the massive success of her 2008 release, and the most recent BO mega hit she bagged was in the form of multi-starrer Once Upon A Time In Mumbai (2010).

Apart from Bollywood, Kanagan has also starred in a Telugu film, Ek Niranjan that was directed by Puri Jagannadh, whose film Pokiri was remade into Salman Khan's Wanted.

As for Kangana's love life, she is single and ready to mingle!

Watch out for the beautiful actress on February 25, 2011 as she hits the big screen alongside R. Madhvan in her next film, Tanu Weds Manu
