The charming actress was born as Madhuri Shankar Dixit to a modest Marathi Brahmin family. Looking back, no one  knew she would be such a successful, multi-talented personality when she grew up. She ruled the Cine Industry ever since she made her debut with Abodh (1984). Throughout the initial decades of her career she established herself as a leading actress of B-Town, being known especially for her graceful dances and superior acting! Being trained in classical Kathak since a young age, the lady was born to dance! While she was a kid she aspired to become a Microbiologist but destiny led her to be the Best Actress of the Golden Era. Today even in her 40s, she's the Eternal Diva and people want more of her both on-screen and off! Whether it be the small screen or the silver screen, we can't seem to get enough of her.

In 2008, she was honored with the Padma Shri by the Government of India. She was honored once again when M. F. Hussain, the world known Indian painter, dedicated his film Gaja Gamini (2000) to her.

Madhuri Dixit is back on screen after a break as a Mentor/Judge on the popular Dance Reality Show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 4 broadcasted on Sony TV. Madhuri is also named in the list of the '33 Women Who Made India Proud' issued by The Economic Times in March 2010.

Madhuri Dixit is married to Shriram Madhav Nene, a UCLA-trained cardiovascular surgeon who practices in Denver, CO. Dr. Nene is also from a Marathi Brahmin family. Blessed with two sons, Arin (March 2003) and Raayan (March 2005), Madhuri is settled with her family in Denver, Colorado, USA.

Followed by the success of Dil she appeared in movies like Saajan (1991), Beta (1992), Khalnayak (1993), Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994), and Raja (1995). Her role in Beta of a woman married to an illiterate man won her a second Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994) was one of the biggest earners of Indian cinema till then. The role brought Madhuri her third Filmfare Best Actress Award. In the same year, she was nominated in the same category for her role in Anjaam with King Khan. Next was Dil to Pagal Hai (1997) for which she won a fourth Filmfare Best Actress Award. In that same year, she appeared in Mrityudand with veteran actor Ayb Khan and that role got her the Best Actress award at the annual Star Screen Awards. In 2002, Devdas brought her a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award.

The film released in November 2007 and, despite criticism and failure of the film at the BO, her role was highly appreciated by everyone.
