#14Movie: 3 Idiots (2009:
Aamir Khan,
Kareena Kapoor)
Scene: Lovers' reunion in Ladakh
3 Idiots, a thematic adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's bestseller,
Five Point Someone
was 2009's biggest blockbuster - in shooting up instant popularity
charts, in grossing profits, and in sweeping the award ceremonies
eventually. A satirical take on the Indian education
system,
3 Idiots makes a subtle but distinct point of the pressures of
competition on the youth, its very dire, and far reaching
consequences, and most importantly, the misguided approach to a life of
success. Despite the seemingly grave theme, this high on
fundas flick is a laughter riot, imparting its share of hard lessons along the way.
With the overall domination of adolescent fun and frolic in the setting of
3 Idiots,
we find our 'most romantic' scene from the movie, right at the end of
the movie! It is, no prizes for guessing, the scene of reunion of the lovers - Rancho (Aamir
Khan)and Pia (Kareena
Kapoor) - on a breath taking site in Ladakh. With Rancho finding the
visual of his longtime everyday dream coming true - Pia on her famous
scooty, lovely in the wedding costume, taking her helmet off instead of
the customary
ghoongat and slowly walking towards him... except,
the comic tinge can't help but surface when the kiss of his dreams is
replaced by a hard indignant slap lashed across his face! It makes one
smile when Rancho puts on the confused and cute expression, and
apologizes. Their brief rapid fire catching up on each others
current stats in the five years they have lost touch is endearing and
funny all at once - and definitely not cliche. When he tells her he's in
love, and she questions who with the evident green monster looming large
on her heart, he says
you - and the confession happens all over again,
to be sealed with a lovely kiss!
Breaking out of a lip lock (which heats up the scene despite
all its comic element) she mocks his unresolved anticipation from once upon a time, by pointing out that their noses
never crashed - and he cutely agrees!
Refreshing in its own way,
the romance of this scene, just like the entire movie, is nothing like
usual Bolly romance, but one that easily wins over the audiences.
Starting
today with the bottom 2 on this list of top 14, we sure hope you will
enjoy this week long journey down the memory lane with us - with fond
hearts and fonder memories - just in time to mark Valentines, next week,
same day!
#13
Movie: Aisha (2010:
Abhay Deol,
Sonam Kapoor)
Scene: Balcony confession
For the movie to be an adaptation of Victorian romance queen Jane Austen's
Emma,
and for the scene to be a contemporary reminiscence of Shakespeare's
serenading genius created in Romeo and Juliet - the confession scene
between Arjun (
Abhay Deol) and
Aisha (
Sonam Kapoor) on the balcony is a
must have on this list. That, despite the unfortunate fairing of the
movie itself at Box Office.
The movie, as per its inspiring
literary work, is the story of a lovely fair maiden, who's only but
significant shortcoming is the vanity of her heart. She dwells in pride
not over her fortune or beauty, but on what she misunderstands to be her
social serving psychological genius - in matching couples! The man, her
knight in the shining armor, is different in own ways - never letting
show of his long harbored love, and always managing to get on her wrong
side by being the reprimanding elder. Eventually however, through all
the blunders she makes and he forgives, they come to a point in their
lives, where Arjun and
Aisha are no longer on talking terms over a nasty
showdown. It gives
Aisha the time to mature much faster than all her
years have previously allowed, and her realization of love is
bittersweet - where she finally understands what he means to her, but
fears at the same time that she has lost his affections for herself to
another.
It is at that point, after confessing her love publicly
at a wrong marriage venue, when she's defeated for the moment, that her
hero returns with pelting stones at her first floor bedroom window and
climbs up the fearfully aging and rusty wooden ladder to profess his
love, to enlist all her mistakes from growing up that he unfailing
covered up for her, and to claim she has always been the one - through
all those silly follies!
Just one of those cliche love scenes
rendered in a whole new way - which stands true to the nature of the
chick lit Victorian novel, and the chick flick it claims to be!
Starting
today with the bottom 2 on this list of top 14, we sure hope you will
enjoy this week long journey down the memory lane with us - with fond
hearts and fonder memories - just in time to mark Valentines, next week,
same day!
