Cutting it short!

It's no surprise that Karan Johar is immensely proud of his mega successful, My Name is Khan. What does raise a few eyebrows is news of the movie's second release in the US, allegedly for the non-desi audience.

To overcome the culture clash, the movie has been given a makeover with English subtitles and voiceovers for the occasional Hindi dialogue uttered by our actors. American editor Alan Edward Bell (of 2009's indie film 500 Days of Summer) was also roped in to snip away at the reel. After all, our Hollywood counterparts aren't used to sitting through a 3 hour movie!

Reportedly, Karan and the film's writer Shibani Bathija felt that an outsider's perspective was needed to make the movie suitable for the American audience.

The final result is that MNIK is missing an entire 35 minute worth of classic Bollywood drama, toning it down to the suitability of subtle taste audiences! The first bits to fall prey to this shortening were the hurricane scenes which, according to Karan, were never at par with the rest of the movie and were even given a cold shoulder by the critics.

Currently the director is getting ready to fly to New York for the movie's (second) release on May 7.

Here's hoping that the beloved SRK-Kajol duo will cast the magic spell on this new class of viewers!

By far, worst of all KJo movies. Only keep the songs and cut the whole movie, how about that??? Over-dramatic, over-the-top sequences....thank God did not waste my money in theatre by listening to the review of so-called filmi "Pundits". Paise ke liye log kya kuch nahin likhte hain. Yeeks.....could not belive the same Shahrukh-Kajol jodi....no magic...sorry....2010-04-21 16:01:27

but isn't the hurricane scene the turning point in the film....i personally thought that scene was over dramatic but if they delete it now the end won't make any sense without it...
