@pallavi - i can't not disagree! the issue is in the thought which claims the choice of a woman in staying home as one that has bound her... Kaj even through the shooting of MNIK had several ups and downs with close friends and colleagues Karan and SRK over her shoot schedule only cause of baby Nysa getting neglected everytime she was away - one of the reasons for her brief rolecompared to Khan himself was the consistent shifting of her dates, and there was more than once that Karan thought she wasn't coorperating ...
and this is not to bad mouth kaj at all, shes a great actor and a great homemaker ... the point is simply, that celebration of womanhood should not be restricted by individual opinions of what is success and what not ... there is orthodoxy in being bound to home by pressure, and i'm not supporting that ... there is however quite a contrary orthodoxy in not allowing room for the thought that the decision can be A) conscious B) taken wilfully and C) not sacrificial at all... not every woman sees it as a mark of success to become a katheryn bigelow in every respect, its completely a matter of priority and perspective and can't be ruled by either the narrow minded dogmatics or the futuristic moderns...
thnx, they are all soo cute! luv hrithik! soo cute!!
@spln: Millions of women all over the world are multitaskers today! They work full-time, manage home and kids, fulfill family obligations, social commitments and job deadlines! Women's day should celebrate those regular, everyday women!
Its all very fine to support your husband in his climb to stardom, but that should not be the sole reason for their inclusion in this list! Particularly not on Women's Day!
Perhaps if they have a Perfect Wives day?
Kajol's hiatus was in order to have a baby, she actually lost her first one! Every working woman needs time off for pregnancy and childbirth! She didnt take off because she was looking after hubby Ajay's matters! They are a perfectly understanding couple!
@pallavi - exactly my point ... you can be a sole homemaker, or a multitasker, or simply independent ... what you chose to do should not determine your terms of success or achievement ... what should is how far you persevere into it ... kaj is popular and has done well even now, but a hiatus she did take... even if career was not abandoned it tends to take a back seat here and there - the point is there should be a rightful balance, and the right support ... to be a woman behind the success of a man, in my opinion is never a small feat - while its completely one thing to accomplish and gain laurals for self, there is quite another side of determination and motivation involved in dedicating yourslef to something that may by many be seen as orthodoxy/ your hubby's fame...
Ummm Kajol and Ash didnt give up their careers after marriage, did they? So where does the question of homemakers arise? Twinkle has her own Interior design business, so does Suzanne! Most of these are also working women as well as star wives. Jaya still works frequently in movies, Kajol is still as popular as a heroine even after motherhood! I think thats the biggest achievement!
i beg to differ sunaina!
i think who and how you want to shape your woman hood is entirely a matter of individual perspective... and if independent women hope and expect to be respected as individuals, i think its unfair to the homemakers to snatch their share of stardom - the article did not intend bonded labor on to women, but to applaud some, who have in their long run of choices chosen their homes but made a mark as big as any katheryn could! a win is a win - big or small - and the essence of it should be celebrated!
I dont think IF should have posted such an article on the occassion of woman's day . Today's women do not want to be behind the success of a man but be successful themselves. Look at Oscars. Katherine Biglow, instead of being behind James Cameroon has won the Oscar herself.
Please India-Forum do not post such articles and that also full of misinformation.
Another thing , please do not put this "burden of family first" only on Indian women. Women anywhere in the world equally care for their family and children.
First of all, Jaya did NOT quit working after she married Amitabh! Whoever wrote this article has no idea about movies released in the 1970s after the Bachchans married! Jaya continued acting even while she was pregnant at the time of Sholay, expecting daughter Shweta! She acted in at least 10 movies after her marriage, including Naukar, Koshish, Mili and Sholay.
And Bachchans marriage isnt a perfect one! Jaya has suffered heartbreak over "you know who" although she has forgiven Amitabh for his straying OR turned a blind eye to his peccadillos! AB is definitely not a saint!
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww this is soo cute!!!!!! :)
