Looking Back At The Trends Our Bollywood's Favourite Women Have Set

Comments  Comments [ 2 ]    By Juhi Sagar | 08 March 2018 | 5:36pm

While the world today is abuzz with empowering women, there ain't an ounce of qualm that they already are powerful, in more ways than one. And the sartorial world dominated by the Indian film industry is only one of the testaments of the same.

Although the pay gap disparity is a concern they are tackling in Bollywood, hands down, women are and have been strong influencers as we talk about the style and makeup trends they have set over the years.

Below is the listicle of some divas who've not just set a trend but made it a rage too...

Late actress Sridevi single-handedly made these long designer bindis a craze back in the 80s.

Madhuri Dixit Nene's wardrobe in Hum Aapke Hai Koun..! was popular and how! While that red dress was hit among girls, teenagers opted for the green lehenga and older women for that purple sari.

Not to forget her simple georgette suits in Dil To Pagal Hai.

The eternal beauty, Rekha, and her flamboyant Indian looks are simply goals, that every mother tries to achieve on request of their daughters.

Talking about sarees, the woman who has given strength to the younger generation to don them in the most traditional way possible is Deepika Padukone.

Back to the 90s, Kajol's dungaree look accompanied by a bob and amped by a headband was on every teenage girl's to-convince-mommy list. While that black halter gown from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was every 90s bride's cocktail gown silhouette.

Thank Urmila Matondkar and her Rangeela movie for introducing the short skater dresses and skirts to the Indian retail world.

Alia Bhatt for making a little red dress more ravishing with her film Student of the Year and also the silver Manish Malhotra designed lehenga.

Kareena Kapoor Khan as Geet in Jab We Met, introduced us to the comfiest bottoms girls have ever known. And an eye-makeup that could slay thousands with just one look.

Kudos to Anushka Sharma for bringing in the authentic Punjabi suit and solving our traditional dressing dilemmas. And also reviving the phulkari embroidery technique.

Most recently, making this pastel shade the new bridal colour.
