What's Hot, What's Not At Filmfare 2017

It is that time of the year again - The time our beloved Bollywood stars doll themselves up for a night of fun and festivities, and, of course, lots of fashion! And all this to celebrate and honour both the artistic and technical excellence of professionals of the Bollywood film industry. While awards form the essence of this splendid show, let me make an honest confession, I am more interested in the fashion! After all, we do get a little bit of enjoyment from sitting back and wondering what works and what does not.

The 62nd Jio Filmfare Awards were no different on that front. The heartthrobs of Bollywood were out in full force, putting their best foot forward. For some, it worked, while for others it could have been done better.

Let's take a look, shall we?

What's Hot?
Jacqueline Fernandes

Turning heads in Ali Younes was Jacqueline Fernandes. The sparkling silver-grey one-shoulder gown was paired with exquisite silver jewellery from Jet Gems. She shimmered and gleamed, with open straightened hair and make-up that enhanced her features but did not take away from the main attraction - that is, her lovely dress. Wow, we say. Wow!

We lost our dil to Dilwale's Kriti Sanon. Her hot Shehla Khan black dress had thigh-high slit and silver embellishments that did everything to mesmerise us. Simple black heels and dangling earrings, plus a slightly messy up-do made an outfit that could have gone very wrong, go very right. We're living for this look!

Probably everybody dreams to look as good as Shilpa Shetty while in their 40s, especially after having a child. The actress looked like a dream in her gold high-slit Manish Malhotra gown. Paired with long Mehernosh Heeramaneck gold earrings and volume-added to her straightened hair, she pretty much stole the show. And please, do not forget the pointed Oscar de la Renta heels! This outfit was flawless.

Parineeti Chopra added a refreshing pop of colour to the night in a deep pink Mark Bumgarner gown. The young starlet looked much like a Disney princess, with accessories kept at the minimum - just a pair of drop earrings and a ring, and her hair left open. With pink lips and fresh-faced make-up, she looked nothing short of stunning.

What's Not

The usually fashion-forward Sonam Kapoor was a little off her game this time around. While the translucent-white Elle Saab gown does flatter her frame, there was a little too much going on with the peplum, the sheer and the petals. Even if it were just the sleeves that were a little less dramatic, this would have made for a stellar appearance. But her makeup was completely on point with those maroon lips! And keeping it simple with a bun was a smart touch.

I'm not saying Alia Bhatt did not look sweet in her blush pink Prabal Gurung dress. With her hair pulled back into a low voluminous ponytail and simple make-up, she looked a little too drab for such an event. The lack of accessories also took away from what could have been quite the look.

The shiny bronze Nikhil Thampi gown Kalki Koechlin was sporting was daring; maybe a little too daring. The deep plunged neckline and the high slit could have worked if the dress had just one. The multiple necklaces were a little too grungy for our taste and that updo did nothing to complement the outfit. This was just not a look we could get behind unfortunately!

Hopefully, someday Vidya Balan will take a step away from her comfort zone and wear something other than saris to events; or at least wear a more stylish or surprising sari. The black semi-striped Red Mango silk sari was somewhat elegant, but it hid most of Vidya's body and made her look frumpy. The middle-parted bun did not help. The outfit simply fell flat.

There were definitely other outfits to look out for at the 2017 Filmfare Awards. These are just some of the ones that were extremely memorable. What were some of the looks you loved? Which ones did you think fell short of the mark? Let us know in the comments below!
