What's Hot, What's Not: Amazon India Fashion Week

The Amazon India Fashion Week (AIFW) Spring/Summer 2016 recently came to a close, and boy did we find some stunners. Of course there were some wins and some not so much, as there usually are at events such as these. Fashion is, after all, such a subjective topic. What works for some may not work for others.

But let's focus on what worked for us this time around.

What's Hot?

Ileana's bold and bling accessories

The actress looked red hot in a tube neck gown. The highlights of her outfits were the jewellery designed by Abhishek Kankaria and Shrruti Tapuria - a zircon studded statement necklace that wrapped around her neck like a tie, matching earrings and a handcuff. All in all, this was a showstopper.

What's Not

It was a relief that there seemed to be no major Bollywood stars walking down the ramp during Pratima Pandey's collection of flowy fabrics with floral motifs. The dresses looked like old-time nightgowns and the models' center-parted straightened hair did not help at all. No, thank you.

What's Hot?

Nimrat Kaur's elegance and regality

Mandira Wirk's latest collection is titled "New Royal", and there's no denying that she delivered. The beautiful, white gown Nimrat wore on the ramp made her look like royalty indeed. The gown was actually an ivory drape concept sari with just a zipper, paneled gown with mother of pearls and dori work. To top off the outfit was a sheer cape. It made a pretty and feminine picture.

What's Not

Singer Sona Mohapatra's ensemble for day two of the event. The dress was alright, the red definitely flattered her skin tone. It may have been simple - almost a beach dress - but she made it work. The plunging neckline helped. However, what was that hair? And no accessories? What was she thinking?

One thing we can take away from this AIFW? Red is definitely back in. It works on almost everything and designers have been taking full advantage of it. What were your thoughts? What was hot and what was not? Tell us in the comments below!
