Colors in Vogue: The Red IIFA

The recent IIFA Awards were glamorous, star-studded, enjoyable yet monotonous in fashion. BollyCurry's Fashion Police saw just too many reds, whites and blacks. Where has the colour gone? Nonetheless, with red flaring in our eyes, the Fashion Police set on a mission to code the red in good and bad.

Anushka Sharma

Still hungover from her retro film Bombay Velvet, Anushka Sharma graced the awards in a simple red Gauri and Nainika floor-sweeping gown with a slightly retro hairdo, red lips, and no accessories. The dress and the hairdo win points, but the lack of jewellery or any other accessories loses her points as well. An elegant, fine silver necklace with a pendant would have done wonders to this lovely outfit. Or a cuff. Our verdict: Good! Rating: 4/5

Deepika Padukone

DPad has us so pleased that we feel like jumping for joy on sight of her outfit. Red and gold is a colour combination that never fails and it didn't fail here either. Looking downright gorgeous in a Sabyasachi sari, Padukone added bright red lipstick, a neat and tight bun and gold earrings to complete her look. We have no complaints. Our verdict: Excellent! Rating: 5/5

Huma Qureshi

Huma Qureshi appeared in another Gauri and Nainika gown, this time sans the floor-sweep. Qureshi flaunted her curves with panache adding a messy bob, simple make-up and jewellery from the Farah Khan Fine Jewellery line. Add to it matching red lips and nude sandals, and the look is complete. Another red look that gets a verdict of Good! Rating: 4.5/5

Bipasha Basu

Either Gauri and Nainika only make clothes in red or 'tis the season to be red because Basu appeared on the floor in a red designer dress number by the designer duo as well. Showcasing her sexy legs and cleavage, we are only left wondering why? Her brunette locks may have worked on a strapless gown, but here they simply work against the dress. The red lips, bland make-up and minimalistic jewellery left us shaking our heads in despair. Our verdict: Bad. Rating: 2/5

Dia Mirza

If there was ever a look created that made the Fashion Police go weak in the knees, this was it. Dia Mirza rocked and how! Wearing a red Shantanu and Nikhil dress with gold embroidery, Mirza closed the deal with a black and gold clutch, Farah Khan Ali jewellery, deep red lips and gold and silver heels. We love! Not only because Mirza looks stunning, but also because the addition of black and silver make an all-red look so much more elegant. Our verdict: The Best Dressed (in Red) Woman of the Evening. Rating: 5/5

Hrithik Roshan

Who says fashion is just for the females? Hrithik Roshan has proven to us that males take just as much care when donning for awards. Looking absolutely smoking hot in a red velvet suit jacket, a matching bow tie, black pants, and white shirt, Roshan has changed the meaning of the term "painting the town red". That pristine hair, the faint smile and that comfortable pose have us on our knees. Our verdict: The Best Dressed (in Red) Man of the Evening. Rating: 5/5

Ranveer Singh

Known for his unconventional style, we aren't sure what to say here. While on one hand this look defines him, on the other hand we aren't sure we're ready for the magician-cum-retro-cum-quirky look just yet. Dressed in a three-piece printed, satin suit with a black tie and a pair of black dress shoes, the image is normal enough. But then comes the black top hat, a black cane, and red-tinted sunglasses and it seems Singh has taken his wacky image much to his heart. With a little confusion and a whole lot of pros and cons playing in our mind, we're on the fence with this one. Rating: 2.5/5

While the above is just a glimpse into what the red had to offer us, we can only say that this year IIFA has proven to be successful. Not just in terms of awards, but also in terms of fashion. After all, it's not everyday that the Fashion Police has only one Bad verdict for all the red that our eyes had to suffer. We guess the stars are making the most of the green carpet and we wholesomely approve.
