Ahead of the release of his upcoming movie Drishyam; Ajay Devgn speaks about his journey from being a Singham to being a common man. In a candid chat over a cup of coffee, Ajay shares some of his memorable moments while shooting the movie.

As an actor do you have to prepare yourself differently for your varied roles?

No, I really don't have to. I go and do exactly what I have to on the sets. I discuss with the director and put my point of view and he agrees. Then, I can't even rehearse because when they ask for a rehearsal I forget my lines and then I don't know what I am going to do. Whoever has worked with me know it that he will do it in a take.

In Drishyam you have played a common man which is quite different from the roles you have played before. How was it getting in the skin?

Not very difficult and also difficult I would say. He is a common man but strength wise, if he is not physically but mentally he is stronger than any Singham and the way he beats the whole system of police and law to protect his whole family, after every scene you will understand.

You first heard about Drishyam or you saw it?

No, I haven't seen it. I have just seen my film.

What attracted you to the film?

The script and the screenplay attracted me a lot. The main reason I accepted it is because it has a brilliant script.

In what way is the Hindi version different from the Tamil and Malayalam version?

It's become more urban and lots of things what we felt could be trimmed and drama enhanced, those things have been done. But the basics we have not touched.
You will be surely compared with Kamala Hassan and Mohanlal, so was there any pressure?

No, not at all. You take pressure when you feel that there is competition. People like Mohanlal and Kamala Hassan; I don't take them as competition. They are senior and fabulous actors, they have won national awards and people love them. So, that is the reason I didn't see the film also. I didn't want to get influenced. But if it was a weaker actor I would have seen the film so that I would understand what not to do but if I would have seen Mohanlal, then maybe I would have got influenced.

Tabu is all praises for you, what do you feel about that?

Yes, that's because I don't learn my lines. I understand my lines. People tend to learn their lines. I sometimes do have problems with my lines but I still don't learn them. I read them once or twice, understand them and say the way I feel.

How was it working with Mrinal? (child actor in the movie)

Mrinal was fabulous. We must have given retakes but she never did.

Shivay has been one of your ambitious projects, so how is work going on it?

Yes, it is one of my most ambitious projects and lot of work is going on along with hectic schedules.

Any future projects coming up?

Yes, I have Shivay and also I am doing a film called Badshaho.

We wish Ajay all the very best for Drishyam.
