Celeb In The Spotlight: Sonam Kapoor

Born and raised in Mumbai by her parents, acclaimed actor Anil Kapoor, and mother Sunita Kapoor, Sonam has two younger siblings - a sister named Rhea and a brother, Harshvardhan.

After initially schooling in Mumbai at the Arya Vidya Mandir School, S

onam went on to obtain her International Baccalaureate from United World College of South East Asia.

Eventually, she moved into the world of film making - although her premier venture and intention was only to be behind the scenes. She served as the assistant director to Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the making of 2005's much acclaimed and blockbuster hit, Black.

For someone who had not considered acting for a career - she was a face spotted soon enough nonetheless, and in 2007, she debuted with Bhansali's Saawariya alongside debuting co-star and Kapoor scion, Ranbir. Although the film was a box office failure, Sonam earned herself a nomination for Filmfare Award in the Best Female Debutante category, and bagged further encouraging offers.

Her second release in 2009 brought yet again another failure at the BO, Dehli-6, opposite Abhishek Bachchan. However, on the individual front, the compliments continued to flow in as Sonam was tagged "instinctive" and a "fire cracker performer"; and hence, the offers kept coming too. Not to mention her ever increasing pay packets from representing some very impressive and internationally renowned brand names.

In 2010, she appeared in Punit Malhotra's I Hate Luv Storys from the KJo camp, with co-star Imran Khan and that was Kapoor's first commercial success. The same year, released her father's home production, the rom-com contemporary Indian adaptation of Jane Austen's novel Emma - titled Aisha, and co starring Abhay Deol, which fared averagely.

Recently, the Saawariya star was seen in 2011's comic multi-starrer Thank You which was another moderate success at the BO.

In 2011, she appeared at the 64th Cannes Film Festival as the face of L'Oreal India.

The most promising and anticipated of her releases so far shall hit the halls this September 16th. Mausuam, a romantic drama featuring Shahid Kapur, is a Pankaj Kapuir directorial debut. After Mausam shall come Player, a remake of Italian Job, alongside her D-6 co-star Abhishek Bachchan.

Will 2011 prove to be Sonam's breakthrough year in the world of cinema?!

Sonam is really different off-screen..she's so friendly and girl next door!! And also very bubbly,talkative and happy go-like! No actress-like attitude at all!
