BollyCurry is back this week with the Celebrity in the Spotlight - from onscreen portrayals of cute-boy-next-door, to the roughened Charlie boy; from the scandal of being dumped by his first and longest lady love to following it up with a line of clandestine affairs; from sitting at home in a six month jobless slump period to shooting back with a line of aces; and from acting like it's real, to dancing like no ones watching, to stealing maiden hearts and escalating to being one of most loved chocolate boys of the industry's young boy brigade - we present to you, the Shahid Kapur.

First facts about the actor - that you may, or may not know.

Born on February 25, 1981, Kapur started with becoming a trained dancer, and eventually rose to be rated among the best actors of Bollywood over the years! His father, Pankaj Kapur [actor, and now film maker] and mother, classical dancer Neelima Azeem divorced when he was the mere age of 3. After the divorce, he lived with his mother and maternal grandparents in Delhi but his relationship with his father and consequent step-mother Supriya Pathak [actor - TV & Bollywood], was never a bitter one. In his early years, Shahid schooled at Rajhan's Vidyayla, Mumbai.

The young gun started off his career with minor breaks in music videos, and some notable advert campaigns like Pepsi (alongside King Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherji). With reference to the music videos, his maiden appearance was in Aankhon Mein Tera Hi Chehra, a popular album cover in the 90's by the Aryans which was a roaring success with the then youth. Following up on that, he was encouraged to join the Shiamak Davar Institute for performing Arts which led him to performing in Subhash Ghai's film Taal [1999] as a background dancer in the eloquently choreographed Kahin Aag Lage Lag Jawe.

Just 4 years after his appearance in Ghai's film, he was offered the lead role of Ken Ghosh's Ishq Vishq [2003] opposite Amrita Rao, and VJ Shehnaz. The film did extremely well at the box office and Shahid went on to grab his first FilmFare award with a mega-debut-buster!

The year after saw Kapur in Fida, a thriller, which also starred his then girlfriend Kareena Kapoor, but although the film failed to do well at the Box Office it earned him great acclaim! Fida was followed by the humorous film Dil Maange More, which also sadly bombed at BO, but did not yet leave Shahid dejected.

His 2006 film, Shikhar earned him the most praise and also his very first Star Screen Award in the Best Actor category.

In 2006 also, he appeared in Sooraj R's Vivah featuring Amrita Rao once again. This film went onto become the highest grossing movie of that year, and his grandest bounce back from oblivion after a bumper debut. With 2007, he delivered another ace in Imtiaz Ali's Jab We Met which marked his first onscreen hit with Bebo - although the two had undergone a nasty split by that time. Irrespective of their personal differences, the movie took the audiences and industry by storm.

In 2009, he finally broke out of his chocolate boy image with the release of Kaminey where he played a double role of twins who were characteristically completely different! The film ended up being a commercial success, and earned Shahid unprecedented accolades for his acting skill. After that, he came out with films such as Paathshala and Badmaash Company which were both average sellers at BO.
His most recent film was Milenge Milenge alongside ex-girlfriend Kareena Kapoor - a film that took many years to finally wrap up, given the estrangement between its leads.

For all the gore and gossip marking Shahid's lve life, the actor at this pointed is self proclaimed single, after an allegedly ugly episode with Priyanka Chopra.

And, now time for some facts.

Did you know...
  • Shahid is a vegetarian.
He has 3 half-siblings. One sister, 2 brothers.
  • His brother, Ishaan Khattar acted with him in his film Vaah! Life ho to aisi! [2005]
  • Although his mother is Muslim and father a Hindu, Shahid has been taught to believe that there is only one God above.

Watch out for the lad's next film Mausam starring Sonam Kapoor on September 2, 2011!
