"I hope I stand out and get noticed!" Shreya Narayan

Shreya Narayan is playing the love interest of Sukhwinder Singh in his debut film Kuchh Kariye. Directed by Jagbir Dahiya, this film deals with socio political issues.

In conversation….

How did Kuchh Kariye happen?
Sukhwinder Singh had seen 'Ek Dastak', that has me in the lead with Vasundhara Das.  It was a very middle of the road cinema but he liked my performance. He told me that the day he'd ventured into films, he will definitely cast me in it. Unlike people who say this and forget about it, Sukhiji actually kept his word. I was surprised but very happy about it.

What is your character all about?
I am playing this girl who hails from a small town but is very liberal in her views and thinking. She is in a live-in relationship with Rishi. And because of this she has to abandon her home. She is ambitious too and wants to make a place for herself in the music industry. Her struggle forms the crux of the story.

Wasn't Kuchh Kariye earlier titled Khud Ko Kar Buland Itna?
That's true! But it was actually the working title. You see, Kuchh Kariye has another film within the film. It is the story of how a group of youngsters struggle to make a place for themselves. The film also puts across a strong message of making our world corruption and terrorism free. It tries to instigate the common people to get up and do something about the sorry state of affairs around us.

How was Sukhwinder Singh to work with?
The experience cannot be described in words. He was so very good! Though he was a star amongst us, he gave us respect like he would have given to any other actor. Of course, Sukhwinderji took time to open up but once that was done we all shared a warm comfort level. It is so important when working together. I feel Sukhwinderji has become more expressive on stage after doing this film. Acting has helped him shed his shyness and inhibitions.

Any interesting incident while shooting with Sukhwinder...
Yes, of course! How can I forget my Rohtang Pass shoot at Manali where Sukhwinderji and I shot a very beautiful romantic song… It was snowing heavily and we were shivering severely. There's another shoot I cannot get out of my mind because it was very close to real life. The song picturised shows people running helter skelter and there's fire all around. It is close to my heart because it shows reality that exists in our life these days. We watch such scenes on news channel so often.

Were you apprehensive about Kuchh Kariye because it had an entirely new cast and crew?
Though Kuchh Kariye is Jagbir Dahiya's first film, he is not new to the film industry. He is a well know television producer. But Sukhiji too was the main reason for all of us to do this film.  Kuchh Kariye is his venture and we were sure that he won't do anything that would harm his image. It has a strong script and I am confident of its success.

Besides Kuchh Kariye, any interesting offers...
Well, I have just completed 'Maksad' with Parveen Dabbas and Yashpal Sharma. It is a psycho thriller and very serious film! I am also doing a miniseries for BBC.

What are your expectations from Kuchh Kariye?
Well I hope I stand out and get noticed! I hope that it gives me the much needed platform to show my skills as an actor. Though Kuchh Kariye is not the be all and end all for me, but I have given it my best shot. The rest I leave in the hands of my luck and God.
