Noted Telugu actor-comedian A.V. Subrahmanyam, who was suffering from liver-related problems for the past few years, died at his home in this Andhra Pradesh capital Friday. He was 58.

"He passed away an hour after we brought him home from hospital," a family source told IANS.

On Friday evening, doctors at Global Hospitals, where he was undergoing treatment, advised his family to take him home.

"He had been under treatment for the last two days at our hospital. Since he was not responding to treatment, he was put on ventilator Thursday. This evening (Friday), his family took him home after doctors said his condition had worsened," a source from Global Hospitals told IANS.

AVS, as he was fondly called by fans, was first diagnosed with liver-related issues in 2007. A year later, when doctors lost all hope, he miraculously lived after his daughter donated a part of her liver.

"He underwent the liver operation at our hospital in 2008 and recovered very quickly because he had no bad habits. He was perfectly fine for the next four years, but it was from the beginning of this year that he started struggling again with the same problems," the source said.

Subrahmanyam made his cinematic debut with Telugu family drama "Mr. Pellam" in 1991. He starred in nearly 100 films over two decades.

Some of his best films include "Venky", "Ravoyi Chandamama" and "Indra".

His last film was the Shriya Saran-starrer "Pavitra".

He is survived by his wife, daughter and son.
