Here's the real reason why Padmavati was not cleared by the CBFC

Padmavati has now become a synonym to controversies; a film which tells the story of a brave Rajput queen Rani Padmini essayed by Deepika Padukone is facing enormous flak from the various Rajput organisations as they claim that the film distorts historical facts.

After death threats received by the director (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) and actress (Deepika) and keeping in mind the major confusion and misunderstanding around the film that leads to all this controversy, the makers decided to postpone their release date from December 1.

Reportedly, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) didn't clear the film in one go. Confirming the same and also giving out the reason behind this decision, CEO of the Censor Board, Anurag Srivastav revealed what exactly the problem was.

He said, "The disclaimer had not been mentioned by the makers. We need an official thing from the makers about what your stand on this actually is. Is it based on fiction, or based on historical facts - you have to put it completely. By leaving that out, the document was (deemed) incomplete, because, for examination purposes, we need to know what they (makers) are saying".

As per the 68 days rule laid by the government, the makers didn't fulfill that too as Padmavati was submitted to the CBFC only a few days prior to its release. Speaking on this, Anurag further stated, "The rule has always been there. There has (of late) been a lot of clamour that films are not being released in time. But we just pointed out that we have this leeway of 68 days because many times people come and say 'I have to release my film tomorrow or day after' when they have applied today! We have a huge number of applications, and there's a huge backlog, especially in Mumbai. We have to then tell these makers that we cannot do it out of turn because then, others will get affected".

Starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles, the new release date of Padmavati is yet to be announced.
