Actor Nikhil Dwivedi who was previously seen in 'My Name is Anthony Gonsalves' has bagged the pivotal and plum role of Lakshman in Mani Ratnam's post-modern Ramayana titled 'Raavana'.It has been reliably learnt that a lot of top actors were being considered for this role and hectic lobbying for the same was witnessed by some of them to land this part.

Our sources tell us that director Mani Ratnam saw the actor's debut film and liked him in it. After a hush hush meeting between the two,he as told about his role. It has been reliably learnt that Mani Ratnam flew down especially to Mumbai just before he left for a month long schedule in Orcha in MP and personally supervised the actor's new look.

Nikhil Dwivedi was apparently asked to cut his long tresses for a much shorter hairdo. He has already joined the cast and crew for a month long schedule and has begun to shoot.

The film which is a modern adaptation of the mythological epic, The Ramayana is based in the hindi heartland and is already most talked about because of its unique casting. Tamil superstar Vikram plays the character of modern day Lord Ram alongside Aishwarya Rai who plays Sita. Govinda plays Lord Hanuman, and Raavana is played by Abhishek Bachchan.
