Sunburn to get grander, bigger on its 10th anniversary

New Delhi, Sep 30 (IANS) The organisers of Sunburn music festival have special plans to commemorate its 10th anniversary, and they aim to go bigger and grander this year. Getting back the international music sensations who supported them initially, forming new musical bonds by exploring new cities and a special anthem will get the party started.

Sharing his plans about the tenth edition of the electronic dance music (EDM) festival, Karan Singh, CEO of Sunburn, told IANS: "We are planning to have over 100 events this year. We want to break the barrier and have more than a million people on ground at our event."

Sunburn started in 2007 and caters to genres like electronic dance, trance, house, dubstep, tech house, future house, trap music, progressive house and psychedelic trance.

The festival -- an amalgamation of music, entertainment, food and shopping experience -- is known for getting major international artistes to India as well as for giving platform to homegrown artistes.

There are a number of 'special shows' organised in several cities to add up to the excitement for the main fest which takes place in December in Goa. This year, the Sunburn saga will start with DJ Khushi and Dutch DJ Hardwell on Saturday evening here.

"We are inviting down all favourite artistes who have supported us and doing special shows with them on the tenth anniversary edition this year, opening up with international artist Hardwell performing in Delhi and Bengaluru, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike along with Marshmallow in Mumbai and Hyderabad. We also have a special tour in November," Singh told IANS over phone.

He also shared that this year the main stage of the festival will be grander. Also, the festival will be travelling to more venues and cities.

Singh said: "We have big plans for the main festival and are making a massive stage. We want to take to newer cities and markets as well. There will be special shows happening in Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, Indore and across the country."

Maintaining that the festival is as big as international festivals like Tomorrowland and Ultra Music Festival, he also said they plan to have more than 100 events this year. There will be a special anthem too.

Reports were rife that the main venue might be changed from Vagator, Goa, after the Goa government last year had said that the Sunburn and the Supersonic fests, which the state hosts at Vagator and Candolim, respectively, won't be held in the peak season of December 15-January 15 from 2016. The government had concerns over heavy traffic and security issues during that time as tourist footfalls rise significantly.

But Singh says Sunburn fest lovers need not worry.

He said there is no concrete word on the change in venue yet and in case it changes, the organisers have "some amazing locations which can be our home for next several years".

If one were to trace the history of Sunburn, the festival has hosted top artistes from across the globe including names like DJ Axwell, DJ Afrojack, Sam Feldt, KYGO, Seth Troxler, Martin Garrix, David Guetta, and Dyro.

And in its bid to get international flavour to the fest, they did not forget homegrown artistes like Shaan, Kerano, Nucleya, Dualist Inquiry, Anish Sood and Lost Stories.
