Look who was able to SHUT Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra up!

When an actor becomes a star everyone needs to listen to his terms but a late director who was even able to silence megastars like Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra Singh Deol. Its none other than legendary Hrishkesh Mukherjee!

According to reports in a popular daily Asrani who has worked with Dharmendra, Sr. Bachchan as well as Hrishikesh ji recalled an incident and said, "Mukherjee was not a director, he was a headmaster. How to speak, what to say, what not say. He would instruct everyone, kya Amitabh, kya Dharmendra!"

Asrani shared a moment from the sets which will tell you that the filmmaker didn't like to share the details about the next scene that the actors are going to shoot. He told an incident which happened during the shoot of film Chupke Chupke, "I was on the set wearing a suit. Hrishi da was sitting with writer Rahi Masoom Raza. Both of them were playing chess. There were 4-5 assistant directors and I enquired from them about the scene. But no one responded."

Dharmendra was surprised to see Asrani in a suit and immediately asked "Main tera driver bana hoon? (I am playing the role of your driver?") (sic)

"In those days, there would be budgetary restrictions and we used to get clothes from old films. I generally did not get to wear suits in films and now that I was wearing one, Dharmendra got scared and asked, 'What is going on? What is the scene? How did you get a suit and I get driver's dress? Suit toh apne baap ko bhi nahi dega Hrishikesh Mukherjee." (sic)  

Hrishikesh saw all the developments going on the sets and his reply was epic, "Aye Dharam! What are you asking Asrani?' The scene, right? Arey, if you had any sense for story, would you have been a hero then?" He elaborated things so no one would misinterpret Hrishi ji and told if Dharmendra would understand things he would been on the director's chair.
