Ghaziabad, Aug 16 (IANS) "31st October", a movie based on the assassination of the country's former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and its aftermath, will release in October after getting cleared with nine cuts. Its producer says the journey of making the movie has not been a cakewalk.

At a press conference at Hotel Clarks Inn here, producer Harry Sachdeva said: "It was not an easy journey to attempt and complete '31st October', owing to the sensitivity of the subject in which thousands of Sikh families had to leave their country and settle in a foreign land."

The film, starring actors Soha Ali Khan and Vir Das, circles around a Sikh family who gets stuck in their house while the entire city is aflame with communal riots.

It tells the journey of this Sikh family, their battle for life and strongly portrays the mindset of many non-Sikhs and Hindus who risked their lives to save many Sikhs during that time.

"31st October" has been screened at Vancouver International Film Festival, Toronto Film Festival and in London as well.

It was cleared by the Revising Committee of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) after a four-month wait and nine major cuts earlier this month.

Earlier, Sachdeva had said many of the scenes depicting violence and bloodshed had to be edited out or toned down. Verbal abuses also had been beeped, he had said.

Directed by Shivaji Lotan Patil, the film was shot near Ludhiana.
