Actress Raveena Tandon has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the safety of animals which she said will lose their habitat to the Delhi-Mumbai industrial corridor project.

The 1,483-km corridor is a state-sponsored industrial development project worth $100 billion to develop industrial zones. It is spread across six states.

To underline how the project will disrupt the life of animals, Raveena has joined hands with animal rights organisation People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India.

A letter to Modi from the 41-year-old actress reads: "Since much of the forest area around Mumbai has already been destroyed, a small area of green is all that animals have... The destruction of natural homes is one of the biggest threats to Indian wildlife... Further destruction of what's left of their homes will only make this awful situation worse."

PETA said the project will restrict the movement of monkeys, boars, hyenas, deer and other animals.

"I hope you will agree that developmental and town planning must, therefore, include forest preservation and respect for wildlife. Mumbaikars look forward to your action to save our forests and wildlife," Raveena said.
