"Citylights" director Hansal Mehta says his upcoming venture "Aligarh" is not about homosexuality but is about the importance of right to privacy.

"This is today's story and it is important to watch the film because what happened to Professor Siras could happen to us.

"This film is not on homosexuality but it is on the right to privacy. No one has the right to interfere in our personal lives," said Mehta on Tuesday during an exclusive screening of the film for Bollywood celebrities.

"Also, it's important that the people think and support the issue of homosexuality and its decriminalization," added the director.

The film is based on a real-life incident of a professor Ramchandra Siras from Aligarh Muslim University, whose privacy was breached when he was reportedly caught in a homosexual act in a video.

Mehta also feels that "The common man has to raise his voice to witness the change.".

"We have to change it. We, being filmmakers, can convey and give inspiration to prople to watch the film and bring about a change," he added.

"Aligarh" stars Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao and is releasing on February 26.
